Tough week ahead. But I want to do my sister proud. X

I have been out for lunch with my best friend. We probably haven’t had a catch up for almost a year for various reasons but the strength of this friendship makes the gap irrelevant. Maintaining friendships as I grow older is so important to me. I have had the very best of times.

All is involved when a drama unfolds. But when you’re actually caught up in the reality of losing your little sister, it hits pretty hard. I’m not actually sure that I’m ready for it. I was always one of 3. And now I’m one of 2. And that is difficult to get my head around x

Sitting in my local with my book, a glass of wine and an Olivia Dean soundtrack. It’s very peaceful but I have the background chatter of other people which is probably what I need just now.

And then 3 became 2. My heart is broken 💔

Dental check up. Gold star on gum health. So worried about my jaw dislocating that I think that it’s fair to say that neither of us enjoyed the experience. My jaw dislocated twice during a dental procedure 3 years ago. Never before. Never since. But we are both still traumatised

Glad that Hamnet is winning big awards right now. I see the film on Friday. I saw the play in the West End. I read the book long before and it captivated me. Maggie O’Farrell is a tremendous writer. Also, she is still alive and actively writing. Which is always a bonus 😊

Might all end badly but right now I’m proud to be a Macc Lass!

The beauty of the FA Cup! Suddenly the money doesn’t matter. It’s just about 22 boys scrabbling about on a football field. The excitement in the town is palpable. Already I’ve heard from friends drinking in obscure pubs and chatting with Crystal Palace fans. And it’s only 11:08!

Booked up Greece for a lot of 2026. Yamas!

I am attempting to travel home despite all the engineering works/ replacement bus services etc. A very strung out lady next to me has just moved seats half way through the journey. Possibly because I am sipping a full bottle of Rosé wine from the bottle. Deal with it, sister.

I’m off darn sarf on Monday to spend Christmas with The Bairns and The FAB one. So Happy Christmas to you all! I’m looking forward to lots of Christmas Cuddles x

The Bairn took out the Grand Bairn in his little baby holster thing to pick up some craft beers from the local craft beer place. Both me and his mum obviously volunteered to look after him. But no. “I want to take him and show him off because I am proud of him”. Cried a bit. 💙🩵

I’m feeling excited as the FAB one is being introduced to his Northern roots this weekend. Haven’t seen him for 7 weeks and whilst I do get daily photos and videos, nothing beats a proper cuddle 🤗

Chilled Tuesday. Lunch, glass of wine. Sometimes, I come out to read and hang out with some people around me. Love days like these. On my own with my book but lots of people to watch. And a young, handsome waiter who calls me Sẽnora. He’ll be getting a good tip…

So “Red Shoes”was really amazing. Wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it but I was captivated from start to finish. The choreography, the costumes, the lighting and the skill of the dancers. It was all fab-U-lous dahling!

So I’m off to see some ballet tomorrow with my little sister. Not sure if I like ballet? Anyway, I’ll report back.

Not much fun in growing older. Unless you count the half price admission for over 60s to the National Portrait Gallery on a Monday to see the new Cecil Beaton exhibition. Nice little away day. May treat myself…

I won’t post pictures of the FAB one on general SM because it isn’t my place and also there are some weird people out there. However, I’m busy photo spamming lots of you individually and for that I do not apologise. 😂

I’m a finger away from booking a holiday somewhere lovely but it’s expensive. It’s difficult to transition from saving to spending. I realise that now is the time to do it. I’m still in good health. No one warns you of this change in mindset. I think that I will probably do it.

Watching 1975 on Beeb 2 and so far I am word perfect on every song that has been played. Yet sometimes I have to look at the calendar on my phone to check what day of the week it is. The memory is a strange thing…

I am a Grandma 👵

So. 12 days after due date and we’re still awaiting the arrival of Baby B…

I absolutely love Freddy Flintoff. A man that has clearly grown into his true self. I wish that he hadn’t had that accident. But it seems to have made him find inner peace. Sometimes, bad things can be turned around.

Waiting for a bus, a train, an airplane or just about anything is rubbish when it’s late. Baby B does not seemed to have grasped this fact. Obviously in no rush to present themselves to the outside world when they’re perfectly happy exactly where they are. Bit like me 😂

Haven’t had the central heating on since April but it felt a bit chilly today and I didn’t want Miss C to be cold. Thought I’d try it to make sure it still worked. I’m absolutely sweltering and it will now be switched off again until at least October.

Finally sorted out my Virgin contract. Cancelled tv and landline. Broadband only (which I’ve found to be really reliable) with increased speed (hopefully). Massive monthly saving and the whole experience was completed quite straightforwardly online. Credit where it’s due 👏

Part of one of the most beautiful couples of the 60s with cheekbones to die for. RIP Terence Stamp. You almost made me enjoy Thomas Hardy which is quite the feat. 💙

Sunday sunshine, good book and a glass of chilled wine. I don’t really need anything else

Just sitting quietly in the twilight with my book is so peaceful. As I’ve got older, I appreciate the quiet Can’t believe I used to be the last one at the bar. Times have changed

Struggled to get to sleep last night so I found an old R4 adaptation of “Northanger Abbey” on BBC Sounds and naïvely thought that listening to it quietly in the dark would send me off (like a bedtime story). 2 hours later and totally engrossed.😬Still only 1/2 way through…

I am going to have a little rant. The fact that I can not book theatre or cinema tickets on line sometimes because I’m “leaving a single seat” is bloody ridiculous. Sort your algorithms out. There are more and more single people choosing to go along to see things ON THEIR OWN.

I could Google this but it’s much more social asking you lot. I see wood pigeons on a daily basis and they drive me mad. Anyway, in the last couple of days, all of them have been holding twigs in their mouths. Do they build nests at a different time from other birds? Or is there another reason?

When I tell some people that I travel solo, they look at me with pity because I don’t have a partner. I look at them with pity because it’s the best thing ever! Anyway, I’m off to Crete again for September (yes all of it) and I don’t fell remotely pitiful. 😉 Living the dream 😊
