I grew up watching Dan Rather with my family right after supper. We'd watch 60 Minutes together as a family after Sunday football. I've enjoyed Gail King & Co. in the mornings with coffee. I quit all that. These guys simply can't be trusted to tell the truth.

I'm not sure if Delta Airlines is on Bluesky. I've been a loyal and frequent traveler on Delta for over 15 years. This year - 2025 - has been the worst year. Customer service responses have gotten worse. I've had mechanical or staffing delays on nearly 40% of my trips this year. Brutal.

I get distracted by this from time to time, but professional conference speakers can forget what it's like to do public speaking occasionally. I do it often, and I'm nervous every time. Some of the smartest people I know don't speak the King's English. And some of the biggest jackasses do.

I gave up on TV news a decade ago. But I made two exceptions: I would regularly watch 60 minutes and I'd usually start my day with a cup of coffee while listening to the headlines on CBS Morning News. I'm a big fan of Gayle King. But, CBS News is no longer trustworthy.

I don't believe that there's one cause or one solution to everything that ails us. But the loss of basic empathy and kindness has caused more problems in our society than anything else I can think of. Each of us must fight to retain our own humanity and care for others. Good things will follow.

American law continues to fail Indian people. Private property and profit interests always defeat tribal religious practices. RFRA was adopted to protect tribal religious rights. It's been used to expand rights of others, but is often unavailable to protect our religious rights.

This is not a criticism of @leahlitman.bsky.social: I wish more lawyers took Federal Indian Law in law school, or spoke with Indian law attorneys. The Supreme Court has ALWAYS been this way. Indian law shows that justices (including RBG) have always made stuff up - facts, law, all of it.

The original Constitution contained almost no references to individual rights (those were added a few years later in the Bill of Rights). One right that was referenced in the original Constitution was habeas corpus. It is such a foundational right that it was protected before the Bill of Rights.

I finished Andor this weekend, and I was left with the same feeling after I finish a great book: sad about the story ending, and leaving the characters behind. What an absolutely incredible (and relevant) show. The Cassian Andor Saga shines almost as bright as the Skywalker Saga.

I've had a sneaky fun year as a sports fan in the past 10 months: Tigers made a very fun and surprise run to the playoffs. Lions won more games than they ever had. MSU hoops won the Big Ten and made a deep tourney run. Now, I get to watch the Pistons in the playoffs. DE-TROIT BASKET-BALL!

I think a lot of people are getting a taste of the American Indian experience, and that federal Indian law offers a lot of guidance in terms of what is possible. Indian law has shown - for 200 years - that the law & institutions yield to power when they get in the way.

If you're someone who cares about how government and politics affects people, please run for office. Don't wait for someone else to rescue you or your community. This year, you can run for school board, tribal council, city commission, county commission, mayor, legislator. Anything. Something.

In 2016, I made the decision to just quit watching cable TV news altogether. I'd bet that, since that time, I've watched a total of 60 minutes of programming on all cable news networks. It was a very good decision. Read the news - don't watch it.

So much of what we see happening here in the US is rooted in an epidemic of meanness. It costs nothing to be kind. And, parents have an obligation to teach kindness to their children. My heart goes out to the family of young Jocelyn, taken from them by the cruelty and meanness of others.
