UNICEF has called for the protection of children and adolescents amid public unrest in Iran. Children must be safeguarded from any actions that endanger their lives, freedom, or well-being. Every child’s right to life must be respected and safeguarded.

In Mali, with UNICEF's support, young people are breaking the silence around menstruation and learning how to support one another. Girls and boys learn side by side, ask questions about periods, and even make reusable sanitary pads together. This is how change begins. 💙

At least six children have died in Gaza this winter amid severe weather conditions. Among them was seven-year-old Ata, who drowned in a flooded, makeshift camp. UNICEF is distributing thousands pallets of winter supplies. But much more is needed to avoid further tragedies.

Malnutrition is threatening newborn babies in Gaza. Some infants do not survive in the barely functioning neonatal units. Those who do survive face severe malnutrition and lifelong medical issues. The ongoing killing and harming of children must stop immediately.

The killing and maiming of children in Sudan, and attacks on schools and hospitals, are grave violations of children’s rights. We call on the international community to step up efforts to protect children and provide urgent assistance.

The Government of Ireland has announced an additional €6 million in humanitarian aid to support people in Gaza - including €2 million for UNICEF’s work for children and families. UNICEF Ireland welcomes the pledge - children in Gaza need our support now more than ever.

Speaking from Gaza, UNICEF’s James Elder told RTÉ Morning Ireland that children are smiling as they now hope for a better future. But the destruction is immense and children are still starving. He said funds are now needed for Palestinians as they try to rebuild.

For more than 700 days, children in Gaza have been killed, maimed, and displaced in a devastating war that is an affront to our shared humanity. Israeli strikes on Gaza City and other parts of Gaza continue. The world cannot, and must not, allow this to go on.

It’s been two years since the horrific attacks on children and communities in Israel by Hamas and other armed groups. Killing, maiming and abducting children are grave violations of their rights. Every child, everywhere, has the right to safety, care and protection.

The world failed Jana. A little girl forced to endure so much pain because of deliberate decisions to restrict the entry of food into Gaza. UNICEF is getting aid into Gaza now. But it is not enough. Much more is needed. Above all, children need a ceasefire now.

At just 11, Amena lost both her parents and her school to floods in Afghanistan. But Afghan girls are strong. Her school was rebuilt, and so was her hope. 💙 “Now the school is rebuilt I feel happy again,” she says. “I want to learn and become a teacher in the future.”

Reem walked for hours with her children to reach a non-UN distribution point in Gaza, hoping to bring back food for her family. She never made it home. On 3 June, she was shot dead by a sniper. No mother should be killed trying to feed her family. #gaza
