I am officially the proud recipient of an airplane seat change request that was in my favor. Thanks to the family who suggested I give up my middle for an aisle seat so they could all sit together. Still kind of mad at Delta for changing my itinerary and seat assignment.

I asked for red wine, and she filled a whole coffee cup full. Okay, Delta.

I've been to Canada. I've never been overseas. Either because of not enough money or time or both. Today, I fly to France.

I got carded at a restaurant at the airport. I'm sure he must card everyone, no exceptions.

That moment when the GPS decides to go the way you want to and stops telling you to turn around.

I got the new covid booster today. All vaccined up for the long flight to France next week.

I went to a friend of a friend's cat funeral once. I asked my friend if the officiant was a witch. My friend seemed surprised that I could tell. Maybe in another life, I was a witch.

I'm beginning to wonder if Delta is not such a great place to work as a flight attendant. On both my flights, they were testy and borderline rude, one telling a passenger "she only has two hands" in response to a polite request and others mocking the pilot when he made a joke over the PA.

A young child sat next to me on the plane today, so I watched Princess Diaries and Parent Trap just in case they looked at my screen.

Hello Pacific Ocean.

I saw a truck with "So Cal Pest Control" on it, and at first glance, I thought it said, "Social Pest Control."

This is the first book club I've ever joined. I love it! I love the discussions, the different points of view, and I love branching out with my reading - (I'm usually a sci fi/fantasy reader).

I loved the story from start to finish. I thought it was a brilliant mixture of coming of age, self-discovery, and political insight. I loved reading a woman's perspective of a country I knew very little about before picking up the book.

I'm at an airport. I just paid $10.50 for one bottle of Guinness.

I read the original Persepolis over 20 year ago and I’ve never forgotten it.

Does Persepolis espouse feminist theory? No. Does it present the abuses associated w removing women’s civil rights and the attempted push-back? Does it present the damage done to men?Yes to both. Therefore, feminist by default.

Marjane’s journey of resistance and self-discovery. Essentially, her entire early life was a continuum of rebellion against role expectations and repression to varying degrees. Watching her grow into herself was fascinating.

The way Marjane’s family consistently offered their support. They never told her she was too much or to stay home from parties. They made sure she knew of the possible consequences but let her decide, and I think that was critical to Marjane’s well-being. Parenting goals.

I agree Marjane was “in between.” After her return from Austria she says something about being a westerner in Iran, but an Iranian abroad, and therefore fits nowhere.

I'm not sure any one moment jumps out at me. I'm going to remember Marjane's courage and willingness to take risks in a society/world where that's not always encouraged!

It has parallels to what is happening in the US. People least affected are in higher classes and feel untouchable. Women still have rights, but there are people actively chipping away at them. In Iran, the social class impacts everything, what a person could do, not do, get away with, influence.

I don't know. Iran has an extraordinary long and diverse history, with deep cultural and educational foundations. If that's so, why did they fall into fundamentalism?

Completely agree with this. I found that it was a page turner but also thought provoking enough that it followed me around in my head while i was doing other things.
