Today, folks in Mexico celebrate Cinco De Mayo, which literally means May 5th in Spanish. The holiday commemorates Mexico’s victory against French forces during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The country celebrates with parades, music, and traditional fare.

Recently, we hosted educational sessions on dental care in partnership with UB Dental School at the Adult Learning Center, 14 dental students participated. During the event, we covered seven classes and provided interpreters in 10 languages under the Ellis Foundation grant.

Today, folks in Myanmar celebrate Thingyan, a Buddhist festival observed over several days that culminates in the New Year, based on the traditional Myanmar lunisolar calendar. It is also known as Myanmar's Water Festival, during which festive water fights take place throughout the country.

Independence Day in Bangladesh marks its liberation from Pakistan. Initially part of the Dominion of Pakistan, Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan. Tensions between the East and West led to the Bangladesh Liberation War, resulting in East Pakistan gaining independence and becoming Bangladesh.
