BREAKING: Marshall Islands becomes the first country to launch a Universal Basic Income program. Every resident (about 33,000 people) will receive $200 every 3 months. This works out to being about 11% of GDP per capita. If the US did that same percentage, the UBI would be about $770/mo.

Richest country in the world with plenty of food in stores for everyone to eat and still waste half of it, but extremely unequally distributed food permission slips. And most people don't even question how wrong that setup is. As if it's okay to prevent access to what we need to live despite plenty?

I'm asked all the time about the cost of universal basic income and often reply that the lack of UBI isn't free and that poverty actually costs us trillions of dollars a year that we pay for in all kinds of ways instead of UBI. Well, here's a study showing the lack of UBI also costs 9 years of life.

We have to stop talking about how we should simply remove tax concessions and incentives to property investors and start talking about how we should be redistributing the wealth of individuals who rely on the exploitation of others to build it. If not - 1/2

We needed to start universal basic income in the 1970s when paychecks first decoupled from productivity growth. Second best time is now. And universal healthcare too. We must decouple survival from jobs and attach it instead to citizenship like we do voting. It's also 4-day week time. And PRCV.

Universal Basic Income: it's not a risk; it's a sure thing.

A HUGE rural universal basic income pilot project is moving forward in South Korea and scheduled to launch next year. The plan is for everyone in 6 counties (out of 69) to receive a UBI of 150,000 won every month for 2 years, which is about equal to $200/mo in the US. 150k-270k people would get UBI!

Great news, everyone! Looks like Ireland is making their Basic Income for Artists program permanent! This is after a recent public consultation that showed 97% support for the program.

They always say the same basic thing. They are always wrong. And we should do what we have always done and do the thing that needs doing anyway, which this time around is universal basic income and healthcare, and a 4-day workweek.

File this away as another reason we need universal basic income ASAP, not only to help address job displacement and rising inequality as results of AI, but to also help us all pay for the rising costs of electricity that are externalized by AI. New Mexico has embraced universality in their free childcare system, becoming the first state with it, and providing about $12,000 a year per kid in free care. They decided they wanted to eliminate the cliff effect and stigma of means-testing, and in doing so, maximize labor force participation. 👏👏
