I've been playing Octopath Traveler for the last week for so to try to finally finish it up. Lost to the final boss on turn two. You can't save the game once you enter the final dungeon, so the game forces you to refight *eight bosses* if you die. What a way to piss on the player's time.

And nothing of value was lost.

Was pulling up Project Red Sun on Steam to wishlist it and checked the Steam curators. Red Sun is "Not Recommended" by the Steam curator "CharlieTweetsDetected" because the lead developer is a member of "terrorist org antifa." Look, I pulled it up to wishlist it. You don't have to sell it to me.

Finished Project Wingman. This game is just Ace Combat with the serial numbers filed off. And that's OK by me. It's really good and feels great played on a HOTAS.

I will be fair. For as much of a piece of shit Sugiyama was, he was a great composer. However. The rest of Square-Enix's composer stable are far better and more interesting songwriters. I haven't played a huge amount of FFXI, but the music that I have heard from it is fantastic.

Update: It seems that control mapping in the first game just flat out doesn't work when not using "novice" control mode where the plane auto-rolls and auto-yaws to simplify steering. Methinks I may have to do some emulator shenanigans to make the controls to my liking.

Update: The third game finally gets it mostly right. It gives me proper pitch/roll/yaw controls and lets me freely map all of the buttons on the controller. My only complaint is that I can't put my throttle and yaw on the right stick.

Found out about Konami's Ace Combat competitor Airforce Delta and tried out a mission of the first two games (mostly to test the Xbox emulator for the second game, the first is on Dreamcast and the third is on PS2). I *hate* how the plane controls in the second game. You can't even do a roll!

Picked up one of these while waiting for an oil change. I should have expected the mediocrity from the can design.

Well, since I finished playing through Ace Combat 7, and by extension the series as a whole until Ace Combat 8 releases, here's my tierlist.

These aren't necessarily my favorite games, but they're almost all games that were the biggest influences on my tastes. The exception is Guilty Gear Strive. I already liked fighting games before playing it. Bridget just helped with figuring out the whole gender thing.

And Ace Combat 7 is in the bag. The story's a bit uneven, apparently it suffered from being being scrapped and started over multiple times, but the mission design is excellent. The traditional final mission tunnel run is a bit too cramped, though.

And here we have what is probably the reason why Black Flag never got a 60fps patch or Xbox FPS Boost.

So apparently the cats have decided to be extra-cattish this morning.

And not only has the game not gone down in price, it's actually gone *up* if you want the Switch 2 version. Insane how Nintendo refuses to reduce prices on their old games.

Watched through Star Trek Lower Decks over the last couple weeks. Very good show that I didn't expect to be as good as it is. It could have very easily landed as Rick and Morty meets Star Trek, which would have sucked. Side note: Beckett is left-handed, which I greatly appreciate as a lefty.

My take on the Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen port: It should have been $20 for both versions. It is stupid that each language is sold separately. Neither of these are the horrible sin against humanity that the Internet wants you to think they are. Most Pokemon discourse is in pure bad faith nowadays.
