You cannot be filled unless you are first emptied. Our lives are filled with obligations, relationships, and endless news updates. Our plates are too full. Lent begins tomorrow on Ash Wednesday. It is a 6 week process of allowing God to empty you so that you may be filled by the Spirit!

When we make room for the homeless, the immigrant, the orphan, the widow, and down trodden we are making room for Jesus.

Accepting or rejecting our neighbors based on a piece of paper violates Christianity 101, History 101, and Humanity 101.

Some use scripture to prove they are right. Others use scripture to learn. And others read scripture to grow closer to God

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Jesus "All" means "All" yall. If Jesus turns away no one who is burdened then neither shall we.

And forgive us our TRESPASSES we forgive them that TRESPASSED against us. - Matthew 6:12 We are all received by grace. May we receive our brothers and sisters in the same way.

Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy - Matthew 5:7 Be merciful just as your Father is merciful - Luke 6:36

We need good, compassionate, and honest leaders. But even more important, we need good, compassionate, and honest neighbors. We are only in control of really one of these things. Direct your energies appropriately.

The problem with greed is not that we want too much, it's that we want too little. Greed causes us to settle for a new iphone, the next Jordans, or a bigger home. These desires are far too small compared to the promise and fruit of the Holy Spirit

Today may be the darkest day of the year but there is still light. It may be the longest night but there is still day Shadows and fear may linger, but there still shines hope.

When I promote my capabilities I can create admirers. But when I display my vulnerabilities I create relationships.

Children challenge the world as we know it—Pharaoh feared them, Herod tried to destroy them. The world of violence, greed, and hate needs transformation, and that starts with how we love and raise the next generation. They are the true revolutionaries.

The creator was so fond of miracles and how we delighted in them that God made them everyday occurrences. Don't miss your everyday miracle.

Jesus was often overlooked by many because he didn't look like the messiah they were expecting. We too can miss Jesus when we try to make him like us instead of allowing Jesus to make us like him.

His name is Emmanuel God with us. Not against us. Not distant from us. Not beyond us. But God with us.

In a nation with the world's highest incarceration rate that disproportionately affects minorities and the impoverished, it is a grave injustice for the most powerful person in the country to be able to pardon family, friends, and even oneself. "God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice"

Hope is not some donut shaped greenery hanging on your door. Hope is the revolutionary, counter-cultural, status quo shattering realization that God's redemptive love is sufficient in transforming our communities and world into places of peace, joy, and love.

One of the most holy activities I engage in is doing nothing, and doing it with God.

We can do nothing without God, but if you do nothing, it will be without God - Dallas Willard We are God's co-laborers - 1 Corinthians 3:9

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28 Scholars have discovered that the Greek word for "all" actually means "all." So if you are tired, and worn out, no matter who you are, come to Jesus and find rest.

"Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." - The Lord's Prayer If we cannot forgive our brothers and sisters who have trespassed here then how can we seek forgiveness for our own trepasses?

I find it surprising when people get upset because I refuse to welcome opinions, especially when those opinions are rooted in not welcoming the stranger. Rejecting an ideology is one thing; rejecting people is something else entirely. There’s a difference.

You may not be welcomed at every table, but you are welcome to mine. If you need a meal, a conversation, or a safe place to be, reach out. The meal is on me!

As followers of Jesus, our true citizenship isn’t defined by borders, but by the Kingdom of God We have more in common with an immigrant who isn't a U.S. citizen but is a citizen of God's Kingdom than with someone who holds American citizenship but doesn't belong to God's family

When Jesus sat down to eat with tax collectors, prostitutes, and outcasts, He wasn’t just sharing a meal. He was sharing grace. He was saying, ‘You belong. You are seen. You are loved. In the breaking of the bread, Jesus didn’t just offer food; He offered Himself.

A man held liable for sexual assault was elected Commander and Chief and appointed a man under investigation for sex trafficking and illicit drug use to be chief prosecutor. Even more appalling is that it will be defended and celebrated. Lord give us eyes to see.

At this pivotal moment we need a new way. Not a middle way. Not the old way. A new way. I believe this new way is actually an ancient one. It has been known as The Way. The Truth. The Life. We have lost it, but together we can again walk it anew.
