On a visit to Enstone Airfield, I was lucky enough to get up close to an 80 per cent scale replica of a Second World War photo reconnaissance Spitfire, similar to those that would have flown from RAF Odiham. It was a real pleasure to see the aircraft up close.

A memorial to the 19 crewmen of HMS Coventry who were killed on this day during the Falklands War. An additional name, Paul Mills, died in 1983 due to complications from injuries sustained during the destroyer’s sinking. 📍Holy Trinity Church, Coventry 🇬🇧

A quiet churchyard on the outskirts of Coventry is the resting place of nine Second World War airmen of the Polish Air Force. Buried at St John the Baptist Church, these airmen were members of 308 Polish Fighter Squadron, which was based at the nearby aerodrome.

Standing on the outskirts of Coventry is a memorial to the “Immortal” 29th Division. The memorial marks the spot where King George V reviewed the division’s troops on 12 March 1915, shortly before they embarked for active service at Gallipoli.

Just outside the Mosta Rotunda, officially named the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady, steps lead down to one of Malta’s many air-raid shelters hewn from the limestone during WWII.

Captain Percy Beattie-Crozier, attached to the 4th Prince Albert Victor’s Rajputs, was killed near Neuve Chapelle, defending a trench that had just been taken from the Germans. Veteran James Mitchell had served 21 years in the army and had been retired for almost a decade when war was declared. He rejoined his old regiment as a drill instructor, serving until he died of illness on this day in 1917, aged 49. 📍Winchester (West Hill) Old Cemetery 🇬🇧

Some fantastic details on the memorial honouring Captain Albert Ball VC, DSO & Two Bars, MC. The Nottingham-born airman was one of Britain’s top flying aces, credited with over 40 victories. Tragically, Ball was killed on this day in 1917, aged just 20. 📍Nottingham Castle 🇬🇧
