#DogsOfBluesky Finn did great today. He’s still quite loopy but a happy boy. Gus is home too, back in the crate but doing well. Happy Friyay!

Today did not go as planned. Gus had the sutures removed. The vet found an infection so 2 more weeks of cone + meds. Then, he had a scab on the end of his tail that subsequently fell off and left the tip of his tail unprotected, raw, new skin. So, he’s back at the vet under medical care.

Well you guys did it! Everyone who spared a good thought for Gus and I really helped. He was an angel again last night. He woke up at 4am when Beau was grexing, let out two woos, & went back to sleep until 5:30, when it was med time. Can’t blame him. Thanks everyone!

Gus slept like a baby last night, didn’t make a peep until 4am. I know, still early but at least we both got many hours of uninterrupted sleep. AND…he went BACK TO SLEEP at 4 until it was breakfast time! I feel almost human again! Happy Friday!

Finn needs surgery next week to remove a growth on his elbow. Vet doesn’t believe it is malignant but did a slide. I haven’t heard back yet, but I’m not terribly concerned. Gus’ sutures will be removed by then so I won’t have to deal with him being crankypants (hopefully) while Finn recovers.

Gus is losing his mind downstairs. He woke up at midnight, 3am, 4am, and 5am, just crying. He is doing it right now after breakfast and morning meds. My nerves are shot.

Hi. My name is Amy. And I am a sucker. I am easily swayed by Gus whining and go down even when not strictly necessary because of the pitiable noise he makes. I know he is fine but am concerned that he may have gotten his tail wet again and is freaking out. He is not. I am just weak. :)

It is a Death to Smoochy kinda night.

We had a good night! Guster barely made a peep all day, just slept and healed. Yesterday he was going after his tail quite a bit; this morning, he looked at it once! We went for a quick little walk since he was doing so well. And he JAUNTED! He was so happy. Happy Saturday!

I finally bought a dog camera. I’m going to use it in the short term on Gus while he’s downstairs. See what shenanigans the little hooligan gets into. Happy Friday!

Gus is home, in a crate in the basement, which is where he would normally eat and stay while I'm out. (It's fully furnished) No muzzle. Soft collar. And he's doing pretty good! I just had him out to potty. He did go after his stump, couldn't reach it. I'm cautiously optimistic.

We finally have good news! Gus did MARVELOUSLY at the vet’s overnight! They said he has been completely calm, just watching the world go by. No muzzle even!!! I am so grateful! He’ll stay until Friday. Unfortunately, I can’t see him till then as it would just get him all amped up.

Whelp, today sucked. Started with Gus’ wound site swollen and oozing. Had to go in for immediate amputation. Thankfully the vet was able to do it. I take him there. They ask the standard questions including “Did he eat after midnight” to which I answered no…because I’m sleep addled and wasn’t

#DogsOfBluesky Verdict is in; Gus has to have a partial amputation on Wednesday. The last thing I wanted but the vet today said that the tip was already dying. I am trying to reconcile all this. I know it is an accident, I know I tried my best. Always will for my boys. Good night.

Rough night and morning with Gus. He fought his meds for over 2hrs. Scraped his tail. AGAIN. No blood, just scrape, but still, not good. The scrape from last night recovered pretty good so I'm hoping this one will too. God help me.

Gus’ tail continues to improve. He is listening to my calm commands and leave it for the mist part. Still can’t leave him for periods of time but I hope that’ll end soon. Much love to you all. Here’s another old pic of the big guy. Totally grumptacular.

They gave me a new ecollar which is STILL too short. They think I should cage him. That would make him the opposite of calm and unless it was SO small that he couldn’t turn around, he’d hurt him more. They mentioned partial amputation. All bc I closed a door. Fml

Back at ER. I knew this would happen, I KNEW IT. Leaving it uncovered lead to him attacking it THROUGH the ecollar and muzzle. It is bleeding again. I am at my wits end. Sorry guys. I just need to vent. My poor sweet Gus can’t cut a break.

Well, verdict for Gus as follows: no infection, vitals are fine, tail can no longer be bandaged. That super sucks because he can, of course, totally reach his tail, even with the ecollar. They charged me $42 for an ecollar that they didn't give me. What this means is that until I find a magically

Gus’ vitals are fine but his bandage is leaking a clear fluid. Still pretty agitated. There is a VERY loud bird in the building. Or maybe it is the Guinea Pig that was waiting. Questioning my ability to discern animal noises. Hope you guys are having a better Friday.

Back at the ER with Gus. He is distressed and was growling. He is a bit calmer now. Waiting to be seen.

I'm going to take Gus to another vet for a second opinion. He's been keeping his tail tucked and this morning, the top of the bandage is moist. Doesn't look red, and it could be he accidentally dunked it in a water bowl. He's sleeping right now. I really just want to shower... LOL!

I promise, last Gus post of the day. He’s tuckered out. Not responding to stimulus as normal so I keep checking to see if he is breathing. He is. I am just not used to him being so still. He is sleeping with me now. Keep a good thought for him if you would. Signing off.

Gus is finally sleeping on my lap. I don’t know how the next few weeks is going to go. I hate thinking that he’s in pain. Esp since there is nothing but time to heal it. Sorry. Just not having a good day.

It's not good. Gus managed to reinjure his tail. He got the bandage off and went after his tail. He was supposed to get his sutures out today. It was so bad when I got to the vet that they could only see one. They redressed the wound and gave it another two weeks. Got him home, FINALY got him

Pupdate: Gus’ bandage broke in half. It was like wrestling a damned bear to put new gauze and tape on it. The trazadone doesn’t work THAT fast. And Gus wanted to lick the tail. On a good note, I did see white fur on the tip!!! I’m going to see if I can get him in to a vet to check it out.

Well, now my office also looks like a murder scene. I thought it would be better if Gus was isolated so that Finn and Beau didn't irritate him. However, that just made him anxious so I wound up spending the night in my office loving on Gus to keep him from reopening the wound. I. am. so. tired.

Guys. I’m the worst mom ever. I accidentally lopped off the tip of Gus’ tail in a door. Poor guy didn’t even make a peep. Everything lookks like a murder scene. At ER. Said vitals are normal. They are still wiping the blood off the walls.

I thank God for my boys everyday, but I really need them tonight since my furnace stopped working and it is going down to 38 tonight. It will literally be a 3 dog night. :) Oh, and HVAC guy can’t get here till Wed. The furnace IS 25 yrs old so I can see where it might be time…
