New York just got its first hybrid ferry, and it runs between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Governors Island! The hybrid system works by using diesel-fueled generators to charge the onboard battery system, but eventually it won’t need the generators at all when a rapid charger is installed at the docks.

This is why as an independent science communicator I refuse to become so associated with any one institution that they are able to dictate how partisan my work is. It means I’m never quite financially stable, but at least I don’t have to worry about being too political.

The way the climate movement talks about rural areas you’d think we didn’t need more climate activists.. or farms to feed us.. or Indigenous land stewardship.. Anti-rural sentiment is thinly veiled classism, and it more often than not alienates those on the frontlines. We must do better y’all.
