More of my backlog of Zoo photos, this time of Ravi! This boy was transferred to Adelaide Zoo back in 2022, where he immediately made headlines by escaping his enclosure a week after his arrival, being on the run for 2 days, and then turning up in the Botanic Gardens.

Found a bunch of old photos from a Dinosaur exhibit at the Queensland Museum from circa 2012 and it only makes me appreciate the beauty of their current models even more because wtf are these 😭

Melbourne Zoo has imported a female Philippine Crocodile and has plans to breed the species in the next few years!! Combined with ARP's recent imports this is such a great time for exotic reptiles in Aussie zoos

Watching videos of the new ONE dolphin show at Sea World, and um. Excuse me. Who are you? I know Sea World is DOG SHIT at transparency, but how tf do you have a whole ass baby dolphin for the first time in almost a decade and not say a word about it?

I've only ever made 2 trips to Sea World with a proper camera (and one of those was only like 45 minutes) so I have an upsetting shortage of good photos from there compared to other facilities, but I do have some. Here's my favourites of Mishka from June of 2020.

Got a video in my recommended about the history of somewhere used to live. Piqued my interest but not even two minutes in the murder of an Indigenous man during the colonisation of the area is described as "the overseer fired his rifle and the Indigenous man was killed." Immediately clicked off.

Going through my old zoo photos and I gotta say, maybe I've been too harsh on the Meerkats and Otters. I don't spend much - if any - time with them when I'm at Australia Zoo, since small exotic animals really aren't my jam, but I've got quite a few nice pictures in here.

The first transfer of animals out of the Miami SeaQuarium have begun, with the remaining to follow before the end of the year. Documents have been released giving details on the animals and their destinations. The facilities receiving the animals are as follows: 🧵

After several long years I've got access to my old laptop hard drive, meaning I've recovered literally thousands of old photos that I thought were lost for good. Now to spend the next week or so sorting through them all to find what's worth transferring over.

We're currently hoping to make a trip out to Darling Downs Zoo as a Christmas present, since I've been wanting to go back for YEARS now. Unlike the perpetually-on-hold 18th birthday Taronga trip, DDZ is much cheaper and much closer, so we should be able to manage it. Maybe throw in an encounter too.

This dolphin just died. They shipped a chronically ill dolphin to a park actively fighting eviction because of severe animal abuse, including specifically neglecting chronically ill animals, and less than 5 months later he's dead. I'm so sorry Boomer. What a useless, preventable death.

Our back neighbours have a big Lilly Pilly that's just started flowering recently, and while it isn't anywhere near as popular with birds as the Grevellia, it is an absolute hit with the Inverts, and it's not uncommon for me to hear Flying Foxes stop in for a snack at 3am either.
