On this day, in 2004, newborn foals Suzie & Lily were the first equines to arrive at our sanctuary, along with their mothers, rescued Canadian PMU (Pregnant Mares’ Urine) mares Bernadette & Jill. Sadly, the moms passed away in 2018, but their daughters still live together with another rescued horse.

Mini Horse meets Wild Mustang 🐴 Mannie and Onaqui came from very different backgrounds, but needed the same thing - A safe, forever home. At Equine Advocates, we give them, and all of our equine residents, a place to get lots of love and gently move forward from their past abuse and mistreatment.

Keeping the sanctuary safe and healthy one equine at a time! Our residents received their spring vaccines, which protect them from various diseases, including Rabies and West Nile Virus. This preventive care is essential to their overall well-being. We’re happy to say our equines were good patients!

We can't get enough of these adorable donkeys! Emma & Jake have been pasture mates since 2023. For years, Jake couldn't get along with other animals due to his decade of neglect before his rescue. Then, Emma arrived at EA & changed everything! We love seeing their friendship entertain visitors.

Look, we spotted a unicorn 🦄 Well, maybe not exactly, but it is National Unicorn Day and Gracie's 27th birthday! Gracie, a Registered Thoroughbred, raced under the name of “Grey Cyane” before sustaining an injury that ended her racing career at age two. Now, she frolics at her own pace!

Philip Seymour, a Thoroughbred we rescued last fall, is making good progress! In the last few months, Philip’s wound has healed significantly on the surface. Here he is being such a good patient during his latest X-ray visit!

Daffodil knows she looks good from every angle! This beautiful Miniature Horse was rescued from a New Jersey kill pen in 2016. She had a serious leg injury, most likely sustained at the auction, and underwent a long rehab before arriving here. Fun fact: Daffodil's eyes are two different colors!

Our equines' water troughs are kept outside year-round, so how do we make sure their drinking water doesn't freeze in the winter? Heating/de-icing units!

Happy 18th Birthday, Janie! In Sept. 2019, this sweet registered Thoroughbred was rescued out of a PA kill pen by Gerda’s Equine Rescue. She was completely emaciated at the time & had serious soundness issues. She arrived at EA in Feb. 2020. Learn more: www.equineadvocates.org/support/janie/

New year, same big, lovable Wiatt ❤ This handsome Shire, born in 2017, was rescued from an Amish farm in western PA. He was very underweight, had a vitamin E deficiency, and had several other medical conditions, which thankfully were curable. He now leads a healthy life at our sanctuary!

Franklin's not a huge fan of the cold ❄️ This adorable mini donkey came to EA in 2010 after we found him on Craigslist. He had a serious skin condition at the time of his rescue that required intensive treatment. Now, he's better and lives happily with another mini donkey and three mini horses.

Jakey & Cello enjoy putting on a show! These silly Nigerian Dwarf Goats were born in 2013. They were owned by a family who could no longer care for them, so they were placed at Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties, NY. We adopted them from CAS in 2015 & they've been entertaining us ever since.

Philip Seymour Update: Over the weekend, Philip enjoyed his first supervised turnout at the sanctuary. He was excited to stretch his legs and explore more of his new home! We'll continue with supervised turnouts, as long as weather conditions allow.
