No science fiction could have prepared us for just how stupid the end of the world can be. "The environment was on the brink of collapse, and so, rather than deal with that, we burned what fuel we had left getting computers to scam each other for money."

Week Notes 26#25
* Enjoyed the last of the Selkirk Bannock * A busy week catching up, dealing with a bit of fallout while I was OOO, picking up a few high-priority bits and doing some product-y evaluation of our backlog * Some more good work on rootly-go this week * `oapi-codegen`'s now - on `main` - got initial OpenAPI 3.1 support, which we'll release in a few weeks * One night, Morph was wailing at something - it turns out another cat was in one of our flower beds, and didn't want to leave, but don't worry, Cookie helped 🤭 * Bit weird that Blink is now doing an AI summary of the image - but also good to now be getting a live image while there's a recording, which is something * To get us used to hiring a car for some travel in a few weeks, did a 24 hour car rental of an automatic car, and was worrying how much we preferred it compared to our manual 😅 * Had a nice lunch with Anna's parents on Saturday * A toastier end to the week, and it's gonna be quite warm over the next few days Playing: * A lot of _Clair Obscur: Expedition 33_ * And now Carol's finished Act 2, we can talk about it some more 🤓 * (as usual) _Kingshot_ * Unfortunately didn't win KvK but 36 overall is pretty good! * A bit of _Apex Legends_ Reading: * _Tiamat's Wrath_ * _Inspired: How To Create Tech Products Customers Love_ Watched: * (No _The Expanse_ (Season 4)) * _Succession_ (Season 4) * _Star Trek: Beyond_ (2016) * _Veep_ (Series 1) * _Veep_ (Series 2)

How to determine the percentage of AI adoption, when attributing through Git commits.
loading . . .
Determining adoption of AI through Git commits
Let's say that you're trying to determine what percentage of your work is using AI - for instance as part of a performance review - how would you go about doing that? I've written before about how I personally attribute code and content from a Large Language Model. I still very much appreciate myself following the practice, and find it useful - even if others don't want to follow a similar process - as it helps "keep myself honest" with noting where these tools have been in use, and reflecting on where I'm using input from external tools. Fortunately, because I follow this process, I'm able to answer this question in a fairly straightforward manner. As a good adopter, I decided that the best way to ask how to do this would be to get Claude Code to determine this for me! With the help of Claude Sonnet 4.6, the following script was the result: % git log --since="2025-09-01" --author="Jamie Tanna" --format="%H %cd" --date=format:"%Y-%m" | while read hash month; do body=$(git show -s --format="%B" "$hash") if echo "$body" | grep -qi "co-authored-by.*\(claude\|gpt\|copilot\)"; then echo "$month AI" else echo "$month human" fi done | sort | uniq -c | awk '{print $2, $3, $1}' | sort This then ends up (after some ingestion from Claude) with the following table: Month| Total| AI-assisted| % AI ---|---|---|--- 2025-09| 6| 0| 0% 2025-10| 52| 3| 6% 2025-11| 71| 5| 7% 2025-12| 58| 3| 5% 2026-01| 56| 1| 2% 2026-02| 80| 23| 29% 2026-03| 63| 20| 32% 2026-04| 99| 44| 44% 2026-05| 65| 22| 34% 2026-06| 37| 14| 38% Pretty cool, eh?

Week Notes 26#24
* A lovely week in Scotland at No. 2 Braefoot Cottage, which I very much recommend! * Was lovely to get more chilled time with my parents, catching up and having some chill time * I didn't bing my laptop charger with me by mistake, and fortunately nothing went wrong that needed it! * Had some good walks and got some pretty awesome views - and mostly good weather, very impressively considering it was Scotland 😹 * My new walking boots were good, and glad to have broken them in a little more now * Cookie got herself caught under a fence on a walk 😅 She managed to get under it pretty excitedly, but then when she tried to come back out, her harness got slightly caught. After two attempts, she then got anxious and didn't want to try again. After a tense few minutes - including me working out how to get over barbed wire to get to her - Anna managed to coax her over to a gap further down * One day on a particularly rainy walk, Cookie enjoyed me cupping my hands for her to drink some water that had pooled on a leaf * Cookie's been very soft since getting heavily rained on, which is always a nice side effect! * Was sad to hear how great a time folks at Elastic were having at EAH, and missing them! * Been a nice week being almost entirely switched-off, and only having a couple of work-adjacent thoughts creeping in * Been very successful with booking our next holiday, but still got a couple of bits to go * Did some work on `oapi-codegen` (largely for Rootly), not yet finished, improving the Godoc for client code and surfacing deprecated endpoints/types more completely * Morph was particularly meowy when I picked him up - literally screaming at me - and he was very happy to come home. He's been very needy since we've got home, and every time I've come into the conservatory he's come over for some cuddles * Had a much needed massage on Friday which was very good and a nice way to start the long weekend after the holiday * Had a nice walk around Gravelly Hollow with Carol and Juno this morning Playing: * (No _Clair Obscur: Expedition 33_) * After getting back from Scotland, I've been busy with a few other bits, so have generally found that I wanted to multitask between games of Apex Legends, rather than playing Clair Obscur, which needs my full focus * (as usual) _Kingshot_ * _Apex Legends_ since we've been back Reading: * _Tiamat's Wrath_ * So very good - I'd forgotten just how quickly it goes 0-100! Watched: * (No _The Expanse_ (Season 4)) * _Succession_ (Season 4) * (no _Star Trek: Beyond_ (2016)) * _Taskmaster_ (Series 21) * A great series finale! * _Veep_ (Series 1)

Week Notes 26#23
* A busy week ahead of a holiday away in Scotland * Thinking about pausing my Changelog++ subscription, as right now there's not really much happening Changelog wise, which is a shame * A nice dinner at Everyday People with Carol, Alan and Nisha - a bit loud (with it being busier due to Restaurant Week) but good food 😋 * A pretty good drive up to Scotland and some pretty great views and beautiful nature - expect to see some photos in the coming week! * I'll potentially add a few things to these over the next few days, but it's generally been a busy week and not too much to share! * We had our first Security Advisory for `oapi-codegen` - upgrade to v2.7.1! Playing: * _Clair Obscur: Expedition 33_ * Oops, already through Act 2, and at the final-final bit of the story at the very end of Act 3 - very much enjoyed it, and sped through it! * I was mostly right about the story's conclusion, but also thankfully they were cleverer than me! * (as usual) _Kingshot_ * (A couple of games of _Apex Legends_) Reading: * _Auberon_ * _Tiamat's Wrath_ * _Inspired: How To Create Tech Products Customers Love_ Watched: * (No _The Expanse_ (Season 4)) * _Succession_ (Season 4) * (no _Star Trek: Beyond_ (2016)) * _Taskmaster_ (Series 21)
