Landmark British photographer Martin Parr dies aged 73
Parr said his brightly coloured, closely observed pictures of British life were ‘disguised as entertainment’ but they became hugely popular Martin Parr, the British documentary photographer who captured the peculiarities of the nation with clarity and hilarity, has died aged 73. He had been diagnosed with cancer in May 2021. Known for his acute observations of the English class system, Parr’s images covered sunbathers and Conservative clubs, village fetes and coffee mornings, often in vivid colour and with more than a dash of humour. His iconic 1986 photobook The Last Resort: Photographs of New Brighton captured working-class holidaymakers in the Wirral, Liverpool and helped mark a sea change in British documentary photography, from the gritty, black and white style of the past towards a cheekier and more colourful style. The seafood was especially memorable because it was a delayed visit to the Crinan seafood bar after an earlier trip to the area had to be cut short due to a nasty eye/campfire accident. We were only going to go for dinner but they had a room available so we stayed over. Frances Ryan checked us in

If you have anybody that is hard to shop for this holiday season why not get an incredibly comfortable high quality t-shirt with some shitposty bullshit on it that will make them laugh and they would like wearing? There is still time to get some. Everyone says they get compliments on them! 🫡

One thing to know about Magistrates is that the qualifications for becoming one are: 1) be aged between 18-74, 2) be literate, and 3) be ‘of good character’ (no previous convictions or bankruptcy) If you’re up for it, you can help beat bias in the system by entering it

I'm hearing criticisms of the end to the two child limit, because it was done just to mollify Labour backbenchers, at a cost of £billions. I remember another govt delivering a referendum on EU membership, just to mollify restive backbenchers. That's costing way, way more... A little perspective?
