My Indiana relatives tell me that Steak n' Shake has become a dingy shadow of its former self. I tried ordering there on two occasions on my last trip to Indy. Both times I was ignored by the staff. During the first visit, staff were engaged in a loud, profane discussion about another worker.

Attention fellow UCare Medicare Advantage members: We just spoke to an insurance broker who STRONGLY encouraged us to sign up for another plan on the 1st day possible, Oct. 15. She said there are capacity concerns in other plans, new member limits are very likely.

Strictly anecdotal, but two businesses near me have recently reduced their hours, presumably due to staffing shortages. A grocery store and an tea shop/cafe. It's things like this I pay more attention to than generic stories about the economy and employment.
