I do this, too, but I understand how right now, when jobs are super, super scarce, some writers are just going for it, whether or not they have subject matter knowledge. Hoping somehow we figure out how to pay for media better than we do now!

"We all have ideas, and plugging them into a sentient woodchipper that’s been force-fed everyone’s mostly read copies of Infinite Jest isn’t what makes them real." Love this essay from

"When I say I am a literary assassin for hire, I mean that shit. *smokes cig* It's all I know." What a great conversation about many things I have been thinking about *a lot* lately. For reasons (gestures widely) "This is when you just have to be a fucking artist" is also one hell of a line.

A truly stunning image from
#Artemis
II. One of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen. The moon as dilated pupil in a cosmic eye. A black pearl lifted by a wave of light. Our silver sister: bleak, battered, breathless — yes — yet graceful, resplendent, entrancing, and utterly sublime.

Please vote for my Darién Gap series (a dream worth dying for) if you have time. i don’t really expect to get recognition for this kinda work, God knows we didn’t for years, but it makes me happy to see more people care about my friends and their stories.

Heyyy have you seen any good reporting on the candidates for governor? i just keep seeing the national outlets dooming over the republicans, etc, but man, I could use some good info on the people running, for reals. Askin' on main so anyone else can join with info, too :)

Today in silly driver tricks, I was waiting to make an unprotected left turn -- it's a chill road, so I follow car rules -- and an oncoming car who had the right of way, stopped and waved me through the intersection. People, this is not how any of this works! You have green light! You go!

Periodically, I have a dream where I'm in an airplane but instead of flying, we are like, just driving around on surface streets and my brain does the whole comic book picture of the plane on the road with the cars. And I usually wake up laughing because it just so completely ridiculous.

At no kings here, there were lots of local orgs circulating through the crowd with hand-outs and petitions, which was great to see.

I've spent so much time in recent years at events held in parking lots because there aren't cheap spaces to do stuff like readings or show films. I can remember seeing shows in big, if shabby coffee shops, but those spaces are gone here now. Cheap rent made lots of these things possible.

Niche bike thing: Sorry to see Paragon shut down. They supplied so many indie frame builders in the US. If you have a metal bike made by a small shop here, it's likely there's a Paragon component on that bike somewhere.
