Looking at Arraez's 2024 defensively, -7 OAA in 339 innings. His arm strength was actually above-average for a 2B. Doesn't make egregiously bad plays. It's really just that he's slow and doesn't have a lot of range. Which is not something that can really be fixed.

A great way to make use of this exciting opening for Dylan Cardwell would be to trade Sabonis 😃 It would also be great if opening time for Nique Clifford could include trading DeRozan 😃

This will be the 40-man spot needed to make room for Harrison Bader. Teng was non-tendered by the Giants at the start of the 24-25 offseason, made his way back to the Giants where he struggled quite badly. Wasn't likely to make an impact on the 2026 team.

The Bader acquisition is good. But outside of the abbreviated 2020, he's never been a qualified hitter. His 501 PA in 2025 was a career high. So he's not someone that's going to play everyday. And you don't want Gilbert swallowing all those PA. Tauchman is a .359 OBP 23-25...

Oracle Park's RF is a good place for an ~average defensive CF, we saw that for many years with Yaz. Lee had his issues in 2025 but they're coachable issues. I think there's a possibility that he puts up monster defensive numbers in right.

The revolving doors: Now probably is the end of the line for out-of-options Matos, whose minus defense and subpar base running with no platoon advantage makes him a non-fit for 4th OF. But that would leave just Gilbert and McCray (and Encarnacion technically) on the 40.

If the Giants can get a Brendan Donovan trade over the line, that gives them their leadoff hitter and puts together a really strong top-7 with Bailey and Bader rounding things out at the bottom. Might be worth stepping up the offer now.

Bader has spent most of his career as a center field but only played 568 innings there in 2025, and was the primary left fielder in MIN. He was PHI primary center fielder after being acquired. His jumps and speed have declined in recent years, but still + CF for now.

And there it is. Bader is a great fit for the Giants and raises the floor of a really bad position. I would anticipate he slides back into a 4th OF role by the end of his contract which is fine.
