Giants drafted Meckler in 2022 because of a truly special hit tool that would allow him to rise very quickly. He got the call too early, wasn’t ready to handle CF, and spent the last couple years battling injuries. Granted a 4th option year. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere.

This keeps popping up in SF-based reporting. Hoerner is entering his FA year, so it makes sense that the Cubs would float him and see what’s out there. But unless they sign Bregman/Bichette, why would they move him?

There seems to be this lingering question of "Can Buster Posey convince the rest of the ownership group to spend big on a pitcher?" Imai's decision date is still a couple weeks away, although it's already been acknowledged they're not prepared to go all-in there.

The theatre was purchased in 2010 for $16.7MM The Giants claim they can’t spend $17MM because of Snell’s deferrals Coincidence? Probably. Would I put it past them? Not really

When I went down for Spring Training in 2023, I went to one of the WBC games at Chase Field. I had to watch Adam Wainwright pitch. He went on to have a 7.40 ERA and I believe later revealed pitched with a completely torn shoulder.

And there's the first one, Wiemer gets DFA'd for Foley. Chances are he'll clear waivers and they'll give him some runway in Spring if they don't bring in a starting OF.

The Giants have announced Foley’s signing. It’s on the transactions page. But no corresponding move. Usually the answer is “boring behind the scenes stuff not worth recounting.” But do have to wonder if someone was already quietly put on outright waivers.

Also, Foley was down to 95 MPH during the brief time he pitched this year. Obviously due to injury but huge ? if it can rebound. And if he loses even more, hoo boy

When exactly do the Giants expect Foley to be healthy? He underwent surgery to repair his anterior capsule. That's the same surgery as Woodruff in late 2023. Julio UrĂas underwent it in June 2017 and didn't get into rehab games until July 2018. '14 study showed average return-to-play was 13.3 months

Adrian Houser saw his sinker velo bump up from 92 in '23-24 to 94.4 MPH this year, the hardest he's thrown since 2019. Also returned to his firmer slider shape, from 83 MPH at 0.6/5.7 to 88 MPH at 4.5/2.5 movement. It's not huge upside but he's a pretty OK back-of-rotation guy.

So far this offseason the Red Sox have “sold high” on a number of their prospects. They’ve got a very deep farm, and being good at self-scouting is how you extract value even from prospects that don’t pan out. Although I’m not so sure they aren’t selling low on Perales.

Good for Kim on beating the player option. Didn’t think he’d be able to, at least on a one year deal

This is a fun trade in the mechanics. I assume Toboni knew he was higher on Perales than the rest of the Red Sox org. Probably helps that he walked the world in the AFL. Perales is 2 years younger but only has one option year vs Bennett's three.

Saw one guy ask "what's the point of signing Juan Soto" after Alonso walked, and my answer would be that you sign Juan Soto so that you're still good enough to get away with stone shifting that would otherwise be (and still might be!) quite questionable

Brendan Donovan: •2 years of arb left, $5.4MM this year •Primary 2B, has lost speed since last time playing LF •Elite contact skills, strong command of zone = high OBP Would be their leadoff hitter, 2.5-3 WAR contributor at a black hole position. Ideal trade candidate.

Didn’t like the fit two years ago, like it even less now. Maybe he’d farm doubles but I’d rather bring Tauchman back than spend over $20MM AAV on a 110 wRC+ bat

Give me the elevator pitch on Scherzer's upside. This is someone who's lost considerable movement on his FB. He's had to throw a lot more sliders to lefties (bad) because his other secondaries have tanked. And he's going to be 42 for the final two months of the season

I’m really curious if the Braves are handing out $23MM for him to be a fourth outfielder or if there’s another move in the tailpipe that clears up an OF slot for him. Funniest outcome is trading Albies so Profar can move back to the MINF

Regardless of the Susac acquisition, how much longer do the Giants plan on keeping Jesus Rodriguez behind the plate? I'm not so sure they should. Maybe he's your corner infielder that gives Eldridge a rest vs lefties this year.

What I don't like here is that they're doubling down on Bailey as someone who's going to be in the lineup 4-5 games/week. 49% of Bailey's plate appearances came with a runner on base last year (lg avg 43%) and that's going to continue happening with the guys hitting ahead of him.

Daniel Susac has 1st round pick pedigree but hasn't shown an ability to hit in the minors. His best traits are average with a whole lotta chase, might also whiff through secondaries. Solid slug output the last two years but EVs don't back it up and he's not pull-optimized either.

Giants can breath a sigh of relief that no one stashed Nate Furman on their bench. They lost Ryan Watson and Spencer Miles, but they may or may not stick with their new clubs. I think they had really hoped to sneak Miles through. Blue Jays are pouncing Stuff guys this offseason.

I feel like it would be malpractice if 29 teams weren’t discussing Corey Seager with the Rangers. He’s very much like Devers in that, while not a superstar, he’s still the caliber of hitter that can be the best bat in a WS winning offense. And he’s proven that twice.

The Giants between Jan 15, 2025-Jan 15, 2026: •Signed Josuar Gonzalez, #1 ranked teenage IFA prospect •Landed the #4 pick for 2026 •Expected to sign Luis Hernandez, #1 ranked IFA prospect Very strong infusion of farm talent within a year. (Of course, those IFA guys won’t be up for 6+ years)
