Accessibility question: should the WordPress cover block have alt text? Technically a cover block uses a background image which doesn’t have alt but should it? Should decorative images have alt text?

WordPress 6.8.2 just dropped, and I’m especially proud of one small but mighty improvement: we closed a 15-year-old ticket! 🎉 wp_get_attachment_image_attributes now includes height and width. This unlocks some powerful tricks—like replacing image URLs or dynamically adjusting dimensions.

I have been using AI tools to get them to try & refactor my code to make it better. Over this year, the tools seem to be getting worse. Now all they seem to do is tell me to break the code down into smaller chunks without any meaningful refactor or other code improvements.Just me

I wish more WordPress developers used the `wp_get_environment_type` function. You could write some custom logic to enable improve error logging or debugging on local / dev environments. Would be super handy, but not seen many devs do this.

My 100th commit to WordPress core! And it’s a good one. Add a new filter to the menu, menu item and menu location REST API endpoints to the make menu data public. This filter will be super useful for headless sites. 🎉🎉🎉

Good open source is slow. It takes a long time to get make good software and get feedback from everyone. Specially if you make software that has a promise of backward compatibility.

When an attachment is deleted in WordPress should it also remove it from all the posts that it is used in? At the moment, I believe once you delete the attachment and the file, the image tag will still render as broken.
