Finished Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy! What a ride man. It's UGF, so it's mostly nonstop action, but once again there's plenty of great character moments and interactions, and I am not immune to the hype of seeing my favorite guys again.

Should've seen it before Taiga but whatever, I saw Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes! I think this is what the kids call "hype moments and aura" but the hype was hype and the aura was auraful, plus there's lots of fun character moments to go around.

One of the most interesting ways of charting the evolution in style and shape language across Ultra designs is just to look at the Ultraman-Neos-Ribut timeline. Each one feels so distinctly tied to their era, despite being largely very similar.

Exactly a year after starting my chronological* Ultra marathon with Ultra Q, I've finished Ultraman Taiga The Movie! Had a lot of fun with this one, reminded me a lot of the Ginga and Mebius films in the best way, and works as a grand finale to Taiga's series.

Void Rivals Day was supposed to be yesterday but Kindle said it was today. So Merry Christmas! Robert Kirkman left a comic book under the tree!

Finished Ultraman Taiga! I liked it! It's got a fun cast, some interesting developments on long-running themes and concepts, some great direction and the most punchable villain in the franchise. A good time overall.

Started Ultraman Taiga! So far, so good.

Watched Ultraman R/B The Movie! It was cool to see Asahi finally get an Ultra form, and Geed works well as a guest considering R/B's theme of family and bonds. Didn't know Tregear first shows up here, so that was a surprise, so was Gruebe being a CGI man. What a world.

Finished Ultraman R/B! Despite some neat ideas and fun moments, I really didn't vibe with R/B at all. The worst New Generation impulses are on full display, with the sci-fi elements almost entirely absent for most of the run in favor of a focus on the Superhero aspect.

My desire for Ultraman to keep evolving and doing new things often feels at odds with the fact that Ultraman is a very specific thing, made of so many small moving pieces that if they end up out of balance it can quickly feel very weird and kinda lose the magic.

You know I was wondering when we'd get another recap episode, but come on guys

Omega subverts the bittersweet goodbye from so many Showa Ultra series by having it be too sudden and too early both for humanity and in the structure of the show itself. It's great stuff.

Starting up Ultraman R/B! Episode 1 was alright, definitely a different kind of Ultra series, and I can already see some of the worst tendencies of the New Gen shows popping up, but we'll see how if goes.

Watched Ultraman Geed The Movie! As these seasonal Ultraman movies go I think it was definitely a stronger one, and the returning characters were mostly used well, and it was nice to see more of where Galactron comes from. VISIT OKINAWA.

Considering how many of Godzilla's enemies have been mind controlled by different aliens and human factions, I think part of the fun of SpaceGodzilla is that he's just a huge jerk for no reason? Like of everyone in the roster he's the most straight-up evil dude.

Got so hungry for new Halo stuff that I actually checked out one of the novels. Had a pretty great time! I think it manages to feel like an epilogue/part 2 to Infinite, rather than a scrapped idea for Halo 7 that we'll never get to see, if that makes any sense.

Caught up with Absolute Batman even if I think I've seen every possible spoiler through social media. Still an awesome book, and I'm still gonna be climbing the walls waiting for the next issue.

ZEZTZ was really good this week, feels like things are really picking up, the direction captured that dreamlike feeling from the first few episodes, and Inazuma plasma was sweet, even if I don't love the colors.

Finished Ultraman Geed! It was a good time! It was nice to continue the stories of Belial and Zero, with Geed himself making for a great spin on our traditional Ultraman. There's definitely a much bigger focus given to the serialized plot, but I think it works.

My biggest wish for Ultraman's anniversary series next year is a full attack team dripped out in classic orange suits. It's been too long.

One of the things I love about Omega using Kaiju as an Ultra spin on the great filter theory is that Kaiju are ultimately beasts of metaphor, and can represent the sorts of issues that could theoretically end a civilization beyond just "it's hard to kill big lizards sometimes"

The more I think about the new Omega episode the more I love it. The Seven inspirations run deep.

Omega Episode 22 was packed with some of the revelations we've been waiting for, while confronting Sorato and friends with one of the most classically Ultraman questions as we head into the final stretch. Can't believe we're already close to the end.
