This April, the world has one more chance to finalize a pandemic accord that could shape global health security for decades. But we can’t just plan for a next pandemic. We must also reckon with this one. But recovery is still missing from the draft accord. 🧵

At the UN Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (#HNPW) last week, we heard many excellent talks about the importance of and approaches for community engagement during humanitarian aid. 🧵

In the midst of cuts to U.S. funding and humanitarian aid, the National Council of Nonprofits and over 4,500 nonprofits, including Research-Aid Networks, sent a letter to the U.S. Congress, reminding them of the essential role of charitable nonprofits.

Without addressing pandemic recovery, we risk ongoing societal harm and reduced readiness for future crises. That's why recovery must be a central part of the treaty.

With H5N1 flu spreading across US dairy herds and at least 30 human infections linked to cattle, there's a pressing need for enhanced surveillance and containment efforts. Could this virus evolve to spread between people? Taking preventative measures now is more crucial than ever.

We are now seeing a large surge in COVID-19 infections, driven in part by the new JN.1 variant and the near global lack of preventative measures. As a result, many regions and countries are reintroducing mask wearing in healthcare settings.
