A repost... All of these spoons were carved from Cherry burl. A burl is an abnormal growth on a tree that can be caused by damage, insect or disease. The wood grain inside can be quite beautiful.

A repost... All four of these spoons were carved from Australian wood 'Conkerberry'. The wood tends to split and so large pieces are not to be found... but the wood itself is gorgeous to work with, very fine grained... like Boxwood or Lilac.. and the color is intense orange.
