The MARCH algorithm can easily be modified slightly for Operational K9 direct threat care. The “Muzzle/Medication” is more for the safety of the care provider. Ketamine/Benzo combo is better than either one as a single agent. #NAEMSP2025

Approaching an injured operational K9 or handler requires skill & practice. Consider rendering the K9 safe like you would a weapon. Muzzle is best. Consider having the TEMS clinician train as an alternate handler to place a muzzle so the K9 will be comfortable with that clinician. #NAEMSP2025

Not every state has allowances for #EMS to treat & transport injured operational K9’s. Make sure you know your state’s rules & laws. If your state doesn’t have them, work with your veterinary board to create cooperative legislation. tinyurl.com/mrmtk936 #NAEMSP2025
