Patriotism, like everything else, is easily lost in absolutes. It isn’t found in perfection. It’s not in a flag. It’s not in “my country do or die.” It’s found in the love of an imperfect country and in the citizens who strive to make it free and equal for all.

It’s not the reality of the United States that we celebrate today; it is the idea of what we can become, not what we are. The GOP has tried to create a reality that reflects their bigoted, narrow-minded view, and that limits our greatness. I celebrate what we can be, working together, in love.

Ever notice that if you search “Frugal tips” you’re directed to a site laden with ads or data trackers? The motive & power behind that is highly questionable. Unless you can wring profit out of frugal advice, nobody cares to share. Get creative on your own. You’ll surprise yourself.

Keeping it real…that can be a hard one. We’re all manipulated. It’s easy to engage with automated or fake accounts. It’s also Impossible to accurately convey anyone’s reality in a few words in a post. We all need the connection of face-to-face and tender honesty. Bring that back.

Having lived at the bottom of the economic food chain, I know the isolation. I know shame. Ironically, I can be “upppity” in a world in which that attitude is the problem. Poverty is complicated & grossly unpleasant. Generational poverty=a curse. We focus on exceptions and fail understanding.

They want to destroy hope, manipulate and divide. Resistance is doing the opposite. (Yes, I struggle with my outrage toward MAGA. It gets in the way of seeing the source of the problem. Got to keep adjusting course and living the values I claim to uphold.)

Good morning $$ stretchers! Grocery budget have you on the soup aisle? Play with soups. For example: Chicken noodle soup tastes better if you add garlic and/or onion power, Italian seasonings or soy sauce, ginger,chilies Sautéd vegetables. Cooked rice, extra noodles. It’s meal time!

Dollar stretching? Afraid that dollar will tear and burst into flames? Just in case someone forgot…. Breakfast dinners are usually less expensive than regular meals. Eggs, pancakes, bacon in our area is often on sale. Oven baked French toast with canned fruit is yummy.

Spent the morning in conversation with a great group of people face-to-face. I need to do that more often. Have a lovely afternoon and gentle evening.

Another frugal recipe from Carol’s messy kitchen. (Wouldn’t a show on the Food Network be a total hoot? The set would be my old kitchen. Not enough counter space, nothing modern. I’d drop things on the floor and counter while wearing a ratty t-shirt & sweats. Food Network stayed tuned!

This ad repeats over and over along with the “funeral lottery” ads that sell funeral insurance. Beneficiaries jump up and down screaming with glee like the payout for loved ones funeral costs is a Publisher’s Clearing House win. It’d be hilarious if there weren’t so many victims.

One last post before I stop my scrolling and “do real life.” Positivity has been the most important thing in my coping toolbox. It’s not easy. Sliding socks be damned. (Confession: I know they’re there.) Carry on!

My emotional response to MAGA I know has eased. They aren’t convinced by facts, logic or argument. When I watch & listen I see the average MAGA as a vulnerable, troubled person. Hate is a sign something is wrong inside the hater even if the hate is toward them. We deserve better.

To save on gas. Drive smoothly—Avoid rapid acceleration and braking. Keep tires inflated. Observe the speed limit. Limit unnecessary trips by consolidating errands. Car pool Take public transportation. If it’s an option, walk or bike. Be aware and remember what makes a difference.

Somedays, the coffee tastes better than all the days before.

Fabric, yarn, craft supplies can be expensive. Many fabric/craft stores are no more. My yarn, fabric and notions come from thrift shops or yard sales. Often they are in unopened packages or full skeins of yarn.

A friend in a tiny town is fixated on crime and sees threats everywhere. 😔 I lived in a crap, crime & drug-infested city neighborhood for 10 years. Fear makes you an easier target. Walk tall. If you look for trouble, it will find you. Fear robs you of peace of mind. Stay alert & aware.
