#DigimonStory Time Stranger is better than past games but still needs some work. Combat was too easy for most of the game, even on hard difficulty and the unfocused story ends with an abrupt info dump. Half the sidequests opening at the end of the game was also a weird choice.

Finished #RueValley last week. It has a great story, but the way the story unfolds definitely needs some work. It felt like too much game time was spent running back and forth trying to figure out what the game wanted you to do to move the story forward. Maybe wait for a sale on this one.

DQI was fun, but with all the changes felt more like a prologue bridging DQIII and DQII rather than its own thing. My only complaint was that combat almost always felt too easy or hard and never just right. #DragonQuest

Playing through Final Fantasy Tactics is always a good time. Really enjoyed the new script, timeline and expanded lore sections as well. The inclusion of the visual novel stuff was a head scratcher though. #FFT

Calling the new version of the original Dragon Quest a remake feels disingenuous. It's basically a completely new game loosely based on the original. Not a bad thing, but just saying. #DragonQuest

Finished #HellisUs Hell is Us did an amazing job with its world building. The games lore, setting, the atmosphere of each of the games explorable areas and the characters inhabiting the world were all incredibly well crafted. Just wish the same could be said for the combat.

Been playing Class of Heroes 3 Remastered for about a week. If you can get past the anime trappings (Little Sister/Brother is a class 🤡), bad story and passable localization it is solid but very grindy first person dungeon crawler.

I tried out the Digimon Story #timestranger demo. I had played the past Digimon Story rpgs and wasn't super impressed by them, but Time Stranger feels like a step up, at least graphically. I'm not going to get it at launch, but will definitely be keeping an eye out for a sale.

Beat Mask of the Betrayer, an expansion for Neverwinter Nights 2 recently. MotB has everything I wanted to see in NN2. A thoughtful, fleshed out story with with meaningful and interesting characters and interactions. Thankfully you don't need to have played NN2 to enjoy MotB.

Beat the Neverwinter Nights 2 EE main campaign. It was a very average experience. The game felt more fleshed out towards the beginning but less and less so as it progressed. Almost like it was too ambitious for the developers and they needed to rush to get it finished in time.

Played the Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion demo and liked it. Massive amount of weapon and armor combinations to pick from, I could see customization/build variety being deep. The game has a budget feel and the story gives off generic anime vibes, so no way I'm dropping $70 on it

Finished Death Stranding 2 a while back. A definite improvement over the original, with more traversal and combat options, dynamic weather, deeper side quests and even the ability to summon BT to fight. I liked it, but never got past the feeling I was playing an extreme UPS delivery simulator.

Finished the Hell is Us demo, and found the story and setting pretty interesting. I also liked the lack of quest markers and minimalist ui. Found the combat kinda basic though. Would have been nice to see how weapon upgrading and attack type glyph skills work in the demo.

Put 60+ hours into the console version of Neverwinter Nights 2 EE so far. Experienced 3 random crashes and some graphical anomalies, but the biggest issue by far is the load times with the longest being around a minute. Controller support is fine, but lacks the utility of a mouse

Feeling conflicted about Death Stranding 2. It has a ton of improvements over the original and has been very entertaining, but the resource gathering and upkeep for major projects like roads and monorails has me feeling like I am working a job.

Recently beat Trails through Daybreak 2. My favorite thing about the Daybreak games is that you aren't expected to remember 9 games worth of lore to get into them. Falcom needs to work on the action combat though. It's weak despite Falcom having made so many actions games to date.

In other words, Raidou 2 Remastered is 100% guaranteed to happen, right? 🤡

Finished Raidou Remastered MotSA. The changes from the original made this feel more like a new game than a remaster, but the hand holding, especially for a game where you play as a detective was excessive. Mostly I'm just excited for a possible Raidou vs. King Abaddon remaster.

Who could have imagined the greatest challenge in Raidou Remastered: MotSA would be winning a game of Mahjong?

Made it to CH 3 in Raidou Remastered MotSA and am loving the updated combat. I really wish there was a way to turn off the quest and case file markers though. They feel kind of over the top and unnecessary in a game like this.

Finished Lies of P: Overture. It was fun, with all the same pros and cons that Lies of P had. New weapons, like the bow and a handle that doubled as a short range flame thrower helped to keep things fresh. But the high hp elite enemies and certain bosses were pretty frustrating.

Finished Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the story, characters and atmosphere. Although the somber/hopeless themes laced throughout the game might not be for everyone. The combat grew on me by mid-game, but got repetitive towards the end.

Took almost a full month, but I beat Xenoblade Chronicles X DE. It's great finally getting a real ending, the game ran surprisingly well on the Switch and the QoL improvements made playing a much better experience than the original.

15 hours into Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The aesthetics, art, music all that is great. Story and characters are interesting. Combat is my only gripe. Why does a turn based game needs 4 different buttons for dodge/parry? Normal difficulty is totally doable even if your timing sucks though.

Kinda crazy that GOG is the one reviving psx classics like Breath of Fire IV. Here's hoping that Dragon Quarter is next!

Played a bit of the Emerald Diorama dlc for Vampire Survivors. For a free dlc, it feels like a lot of work went into it. All new enemies sprites, a bunch of new characters to unlock and new weapon types that glimmer attacks.

One thing I think a lot of people are overlooking about many of these SaGa remasters is that you are not only getting the game with all of its additions, but also beautiful art by Tomomi Kobayashi and a multi track ost full of amazing music. #SaGaFrontier2

#XenobladeChroniclesX I finished the skell license exam in 1/4 the time it took in the original game. Happy to say that QoL improvements with tracking collectibles, enemies and events are making XBX way less tedious overall. This really is the definitive edition!

Finished the Atelier Yumia demo in a single go. Kind of surprised by how much I enjoyed the exploration and alchemy bits. Even the story seemed okay, but I wasn't really feeling the combat. I will definitely get this eventually, but $69.99 feels a bit high, especially with no english VA.

Getting kind of excited about Xenoblade Chronicles X next week.

Finished up Citizen Sleeper 2 recently. It's a well written sci-fi adventure that uses dice rolls to move the story forward and resolve events. It is text based with static pictures, if reading isn't your thing you will probably want to skip it.

It has been 4 years, so I decided to play through Nioh2 again with a ninjutsu build. This is still one of my favorite Souls type games, just can't beat the build variety. I also forget about the guy who wants you to feed him poop. Team Ninja really loves this wacky shit!

Finished up the Solasta Lost Valley DLC and didn't enjoy it any where near as much as the main campaign. Guess I would describe the dlc as overly ambitious, it just never came together. Still looking forward to seeing what Tactical Adventures is planning with Solasta 2 though.

Finally got around to playing the main campaign in Solasta Crown of the Magister. I'm really enjoying its no nonsense/frills take on the tactical rpg formula that has risen in popularity recently. Needing a focus and free hand to cast spells took some getting used to though.

I realized #FantasianNeoDimension was originally released in multiple parts, but I didn't think the parts would feel this different. The 1st part is kind of slow, linear and feels a bit basic. Part two really opens up, there are character skill trees and quests a plenty.

Heading into the tail end of Dragon Age #Veilguard Combat has been the best part of the game so far, with tons of different builds to play around with. Dialogue is pretty weak though, with too many cliche lines and an upbeat tone that often clashes with the setting.

This was a great year for SaGa games.

Finished up DQ3 over the weekend and it did not disappoint. Immediately got that classic Dragon Warrior vibe and it carried me all the way to the finish. I do think the transition to 3D made the game a bit too long, but otherwise am looking forward to DQ 1 & 2 HD.

Gave the Thaumaturge demo a shot on PS5. I thought the setting was pretty interesting, 1905 Europe with supernatural overtones. Gameplay wasn't for me though. The game really leads you around by the nose and even makes conclusions for you when you have found enough clues.

While I am really enjoying the Dragon Quest 3 remake I am not loving these localized regional accents. No clue why SE continues to use them, but I wish they would stop. At least for the most extreme and stupid sounding accents anyway.

Finished up Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven last week. It does a great job of capturing RS2's old school feel while smoothing over the rough edges with a broad range of accessibility features. Definitely feels like this is the future of the SaGa series.

Wanted to try Dragon Quest 3's new classes so my starting party was Monster Wrangler, Thief and Priest. Thief is good, especially when it steals from enemies, but I am thinking of losing the MW. Its abilities, unlocked by recruiting monsters, feel a little too over powered in the early game.

So Umbrology is pretty great in #RS2R It gives you clones, enemy only status ailments and stat lowering spells. Poison is kind of broken, but end game bosses taking 20k+ damage a turn is satisfying. The game still makes you feel bad about destroying a civilization for it though.

So, I am playing the Romancing SaGa 2 remake and I realized I hadn't sparked any martial arts techs in generation 3. Consulting tutorials, it ended up being that Crusaders don't seem to be able to spark martial arts techs. Guess class choice really matters in the remake. #RS2R

Working my way to the final battle in Metaphor Refantazio but the action bits before the turn based combat still hasn't clicked. Felt the same way about Trails Through Daybreak though, so maybe that feature just isn't for me.
