Back from 'Hamnet'. Chloë Zhao's direction is terrific and the lighting is superb. There's a marvellous realisation of an ancient England lying far deeper than Elizabethan England in the first half hour and Jessie Buckley is something else. The emotion of it is almost unbearable. #Hamnet

I was commenting on The Beatles on somebody else's timeline just now and in particular on John Lennon's voice and I mentioned this. Lennon's pleading here is something else, I think honouring Smokey and the Miracles. He does a similar job on the Marvelettes brilliant 'Please Mr Postman' too. Listen.

This is univerallyí true. Even if you can afford to buy a hundred books a year, get a library card and keep your local library going. Borrow books. Do it for yourself and for your fellow citizens and their kids who can't afford to buy the books. Have your man here's last sentence in mind always.

THE stone cold 60s classic. I biked to the Largs record shop, handed over my 6/8d and cycling back, stopped at the war memorial to play football with the lads playing there. I put the bike and the record down on the grass and came back an hour later to a sun-crafted, near perfect black vinyl bowl.
