#SHADOWPEOPLE They are dark, humanoid figures often seen in the periphery, frequently during sleep paralysis or in the dark. Rooted in folklore, they are interpreted as paranormal, interdimensional beings, sometimes as harbingers of dread or death. Common types include the fedora-wearing "Hat Man."

#HIBAGON The Hibagon is a Japanese cryptid resembling a smaller Bigfoot with black hair, a gorilla-like face, and white hands/feet. Primarily spotted in the 1970s around Mount Hiba, the creature is described as timid and shy, often linked to ruined crops and fleeting glimpses by motorists

#BANSHEE The banshee is a prominent figure in Irish folklore, acting as a supernatural harbinger who foretells the death of a family member by screaming, wailing, or singing. Connected to ancient burial mounds, these female spirits often appear as pale, long-haired women in ragged clothing.

#MANTICORE The Manticore is a fearsome beast from ancient Persian lore, adopted into Greek and European mythology, known for its human head, lion's body, and venomous, spiked scorpion-like tail used as projectiles, devouring prey whole with three rows of teeth.

#AOAO The Ao Ao is often described as being a voracious sheep-like creature with a massive set of fangs. Alternatively, it is also described as being a large, carnivorous peccary. Its name is derived from the sound that it makes, howling "Ao ao ao!" when it is pursuing its victims.

#BAKANEKO In Japanese folklore, the Bakeneko (化け猫, "changed cat") is a supernatural cat yōkai that transforms from an ordinary housecat, gaining abilities like shapeshifting into humans, speaking human words, cursing people, and manipulating the dead, often after living long or being mistreated.

#MONGOLIANDEATHWORM The Mongolian Death Worm (Olgoi-Khorkhoi) is a legendary desert creature from Gobi folklore, described as a sausage-shaped, red worm, 2-5 feet long, that kills with lethal, corrosive venom or electric shocks, and emerges after rain.

#KAPPA Kappa folklore is about child-sized Japanese water spirits, often depicted as reptilian humanoids with a water-filled dish on their heads, known for luring people to rivers to drown them, but also respected for their politeness, love of cucumbers, sumo wrestling, and knowledge of medicine.

#KINGOTTER The King Otter, is a creature of Irish/Scottish folklore. It is large and resembles both a dog and an otter, though it sometimes is described as half dog, half fish. It lives in water and has fur with protective properties.

#NUCKELAVEE The Nuckelavee is a terrifying, skinless horse-man-like demon from Orkney folklore that emerges from the ocean to bring plague, drought, and death, scorching land with its breath, with its only weakness being fresh water, often prompting people to pray for rain to keep it at bay

#BATSQUATCH is a winged, ape-like cryptid from the Pacific Northwest, blending Sasquatch and bat features with a demonic aura, often appearing before disasters, characterized by blue fur, glowing eyes, powerful wings, and a disorienting sonic shriek, potentially a post-eruption stress reaction.

#BLACKDOG Black dog folklore features large, spectral canines in European and American legends, often appearing as demonic hellhounds with fiery eyes, linked to the Devil, death omens, storms, crossroads, and ancient paths, but sometimes acting as guardians or harmless landscape features.

#ARAGANAQLTAA The Araǵanaqlta’a is said to be a multi-colored serpent usually said to be around 10 meters long. It has a large red crest atop of its head. It is also believed to have a saw-like structure around its body that helps it move. Its tail ends in two hooks, which it uses to capture prey.

#DJIEIEN In Seneca mythology, Djieien is a monstrous spider six feet tall. It could not be killed because it had hidden its heart underground. The great hero Othegwenhda (Hiawatha) discovered Dijien's heart and so killed it.

#FLYINGREBOBS The "flying rebobs" are a well-known local urban legend from Napa Valley, California, often described as winged, monkey-like cryptids. The stories have circulated for decades and are a popular local "scary story," about horrifying, vicious flying monkeys at the end of Partrick road.

#GHOSTHORSE The legend of Canyonlands' ghost horses centers on Dead Horse Point State Park, where cowboys in the 1800s supposedly left a trapped herd of wild mustangs to die of thirst, their spirits now haunting the area with phantom whinnies and hoof beats.

#EVILCLOWNS In 2016, there were reports of evil clowns in incongruous settings, such as near forests, schools and neighbourhoods. The incidents were reported in the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and subsequently in other countries and territories as well.

#LEMISCH In Patagonia, the local population described the lemisch as a mixture of a jaguar and otter, though by some accounts it was as big as an ox. Sometimes called "tigre d'acqua." It reportedly could move as quickly on land as in the water, and was described as having a soul-wrenching scream.

#PUKWUDGIE According to legend, Pukwudgies can appear and disappear at will, shapeshift, lure people to their deaths, use magic, launch poison arrows, and create fire. A person who annoyed one would be subject to nasty tricks, or subject to being followed by it, which would cause trouble for them.

#AMIKUK The Amikuk is a monstrous creature from Inuit and Yupik folklore, known for its ability to swim through both land and water. It is described as having slimy skin, and four long, human-like arms with no legs. The Amikuk is a dangerous predator that hunts humans, drowning and eating them.

#YUCCAMAN The Yucca Man is a "desert Sasquatch" said to roam Southern California's high desert, particularly around Joshua Tree National Park. Descriptions vary, but it is typically portrayed as a tall, hairy, and powerful humanoid creature, sometimes with a less hairy appearance than Bigfoot.

#MEGALODON Although no solid evidence indicates it's continued existence, there have been purported sightings of megalodon in modern times. In 1918, fishermen off the coast of Australia reported a shark as long as the wharf they were standing on--115 feet. Other sighting proliferate, also.

#LIZARDMANOFSCAPEORESWAMP Is a modern cryptid folklore legend from Lee County, South Carolina, which gained national attention after a teenager reported an encounter in 1988. The story describes a seven-foot-tall, bipedal, scaly, green creature with red eyes and three fingers that attacked his car.

#AMERICANLION There are a number of lions or lion-like creatures that get reported frequently in areas that are not supposed to have lions. The Americas are the most notable of these places, since they have not had lions since prehistoric times (the cougar or mountain lion is not a true lion.)

#JACKALOPE The jackalope is a mythical animal of North American folklore described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns. The word jackalope is a portmanteau of jackrabbit and antelope. Jackalopes supposedly whisper to hikers and campers in the scrublands and deserts to lead them astray.

#MOKELEMBEMBE is a mythical water-dwelling creature from the folklore of the Congo River Basin, described as a large, reptilian, or sauropod-like being that is territorial and aggressive towards intruders. Local tribes have long told stories of it, which they believe lives in the swamps and rivers.

#ALICANTO The Alicanto is a mythical bird, known for its luminous, metallic feathers and association with hidden wealth. It feeds on gold and silver, which gives its feathers their shimmering, golden or silvery glow, making it too heavy to fly. Miners would follow it to gold only to be led astray.

#KUCHISAKEONNA Described as the malicious spirit of a woman, she partially covers her disfigured face with a mask or other item and carries a pair of scissors, a knife, etc. She asks people "am I beautiful?" and if they say "no", she kills them. If they say "yes" she cuts them up to look like her.

#GREENLADY She is the ghost of a heartbroken mother who lost her children in the Wahiawa gulch and is said to wander the woods searching for them, sometimes luring other children away. Her description varies but often includes green skin, seaweed in her hair, and a body covered in moss and leaves.

#SKINWALKERS They are a figure in Navajo mythology who are harmful witches that can shapeshift into animals like coyotes or wolves. These witches use their supernatural abilities to cause harm, and are believed to be a corrupt form of medicine men or witches who use their powers for evil purposes.

#AKHLUT The akhlut is a creature from Inuit folklore, often described as a shapeshifter that can transform between a wolf and an orca, or a hybrid of the two. It is known for being a dangerous and voracious spirit that leaves behind wolf tracks leading to and from the ocean.

#BLACKEYEDCHILDREN / #BLACKEYEDKIDS Superficially they resemble human children with pale skin and black eyes. They are reportedly seen begging or hitchhiking, or are encountered on doorsteps of residential homes. These beings are alleged to be inhuman creatures attempting to impersonate children.

#MARE A mare is a malicious entity in folklore that walks on people's chests while they sleep, bringing on nightmares. The mare was believed to ride horses, which left them exhausted and sweaty by the morning. She could also entangle the hair of the sleepers, resulting in "marelocks."

#AHUIZOTL It is small and smooth, shiny. It has small, pointed ears. It is black, like rubber; smooth, slippery, long-tailed. And its tail is provided with a hand at the end; just like a human hand is the point of its tail. And its hands are like a raccoon's hands or like a monkey's hands.

#GRYPHON A legendary creature with the body, tail and back legs of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Because the lion was considered the king of the beasts and the eagle the king of the birds, by the Middle Ages, the gryphon was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature.

#BARMANOU The Barmanou is a folklore creature from the mountainous regions of northern Pakistan, often described as a bipedal, hairy, ape-like hominid similar to Bigfoot or the Yeti. Associated with the Hindu Kush mountains, it is said to inhabit forests and sometimes abduct women or children.

#GEORGIARAPTOR In 2008, an 18-year-old and his grandfather claimed to have seen a dinosaur-like creature while hunting. They described it as a two-legged, lizard-like creature with short arms, a long stiff tail, and large claws on its feet, closely resembling a raptor from the Jurassic Park movies.

#GASHADOKURO The Gashadokuro is a spirit that takes the form of a giant skeleton made of the skulls of people who died in the battlefield or of starvation/famine, and is 10 or more meters tall. Only the eyes protrude, and some sources describe them as burning yellow or green.

#BAOBHANSITH Baobhan Sith are depicted as beautiful women who often appear in secluded areas, dancing--they will invite men to dance with them, if a man is foolish enough to accept, they will transform into a hag-like creature. In this form they proceed to mutilate the victim and drink his blood.

#FIREBREATHINGHORSES Fire-breathing horses were said to roam the Alps, feared and revered by medieval villagers. The horses, with eyes of fire, are said to be guardians of the mountains. Their breath can scorch the earth, and their hooves shake the ground.

#NANDIBEAR The Nandi Bear is a fearsome predator known to the Nandi Peoples of Africa. It's fond of eating the brains of it's victims. Game hunters have long sought it for trophy rooms, and believe it may be a giant hyena or a relic chalicothere.

#CHUPACABRA The Chupacabra is a legendary, blood-sucking creature, or cryptid, from Latin American folklore, whose name translates to "goat-sucker" in Spanish. The myth describes a creature that kills livestock by draining their blood through puncture wounds, leaving uneaten carcasses behind.

#MOTHMAN is a winged, humanoid cryptid from Point Pleasant, West Virginia, known for its glowing red eyes, first sighted in 1966. This creature's appearances in late 1966 and 1967 ceased after the collapse of the Silver Bridge in December 1967, leading locals to view it as a harbinger of doom.

#MANANANGGAL / #ASWANG a Filipino cryptid that can detach its upper body from its lower half to sprout wings and fly at night. It hunts pregnant women to suck their blood. Its weakness is garlic, salt, or ash, which can be applied to the lower body, stopping it from rejoining its torso by sunrise.

#WESTERNDRAGON / #EUROPEANDRAGON The dragons that lurk in European stories are powerful, wicked and dangerous. Some nest in caves and guard marvelous treasure. When hungry, they may snatch and devour sheep or cattle that wander too near. They may also eat humans--particularly young girls.

#EASTERNDRAGON Eastern dragons are benevolent, serpentine creatures often associated with water, weather, and good fortune. Unlike their Western counterparts, they are not typically depicted as fire-breathing and evil, but rather as wise, powerful beings that control elements like rain and wind.

#HYDRA The hydra is a meany-headed serpent. This monstrous creature was said to inhabit the swamps of Lerna and possessed poisonous breath and blood. A key feature of the Hydra was its ability to regenerate heads; for every head cut off, two or more would grow back.

#KIRIN The kirin is one of the rarest, most awesome and powerful creatures ever known in East Asia. It is holy and highly revered. The kirin is often considered a god in its own right. Resembling a deer with scales like a dragon’s, the kirin is chimerical. It has an ox's tail and a flowing mane.

#LONGMA Hailing from Chinese mythology, the longma is an omen of good luck. It was most commonly depicted as a horse with the scales and head of a dragon. Sometimes it also has the wings of a dragon. And rarely it’s depicted with antlers, probably due to association with the kirin.
