Small studio furniture practice of Jack Zarovy Madison WI
This is the brass post I mentioned in the last post for the cherry desk. Threaded on one end and slotted in the other end to accept a brass wedge.

I made a small desk in cherry. The design is based on a Gunnar Nielsen desk from the 1950s. I wanted to suspend the cabinet from the legs without cutting into them so I designed and manufactured a brass post with threads on one and a saw kerf with a brass wedge on the other end. I’m so happy with it

Taught a stool making course with two fantastic students in a fantastic space. Dennis is The Hardwood Craftsman and has a furniture repair business in middleton wi. He welcomed Erika and I in and I taught them to make a stool. Day one is a lot of layout and joinery and the start of shaping.

Seat shaping in the shop a few weeks back. I use a compass and straight edge to lay out the edge profiles and seat shape and then go at it with travisher, Jack plane (no relation), spokeshave and curved card scraper

A chair is a stool but a stool is not a chair. A bench is a stool but not a chair. Stool is life. At rest.

I am Jack from Genlore Woodcraft, a small studio furniture practice and I make this chair. I also make other things and will post and talk about them. It’s a lot of what I do. A lot of the time.
