What strikes me about all these reports of factional deaths in the Mideast conflict - 2 Hamas commanders here, 3 US soldiers there, etc - is how 45,000 Americans die every year from gun violence for no fucking geopolitical reason at all.

My generation, Gen X, grew up believing that nuclear war was both imminent and unsurvivable. Fiery winds and societal collapse haunted our nightmares. We didn’t believe we’d live to have children. Then the wall fell and it was all OK again. History was over! We kids were never debriefed, though.

I see so much news commentary that focuses on Trump and his regime making mistakes, but these are pebbles on the beach in front of the great ocean: the United States isn’t going to exist as a coherent nation in just a few years. It will just be old spare U.S.A. parts and everyone will know it.
