I went to the Dilley detention center today and heard from young kids, pregnant women, and parents about the horrific conditions they’re in. Thanks to public pressure and the leadership of Rep. Joaquin Castro, the Gámez-Cuéllar family is free. But it’s clear we need to shut down Dilley.

The violent and deadly tactics ICE and Border Patrol are using against immigrants and citizens alike are not new or rare – this is a pattern.

Trump is trying to make CBP Commander Greg Bovino his fall guy – but that’s not good enough. We demand REAL accountability. ICE and Border Patrol must be unmasked, investigated, and prosecuted and Kristi Noem needs to be impeached.

Political party shouldn’t matter when federal agents are murdering people. EVERY Republican in Congress needs to find courage (or fear, or shame, or whatever it takes) and stand up for our Constitutional rights. ICE must be stopped – and prosecuted.

Last week, I voted NO on DHS’s budget. Now, the Senate is considering a short term deal so they still need to hear from YOU. Call your Senators: (202) 224-3121 and tell them we need actual constraints to stop ICE and Border Patrol from murdering people in the streets.

Just like everyone else, I watched the video of ICE shooting Renee Nicole Good in her car. It was sickening. And it makes the Trump Administration’s attempts to gaslight the public even more outrageous. We know what we saw. This was murder.

Two weeks ago, it was an op-ed asking if women ruined the workplace. Yesterday, it was the President telling a female reporter “quiet, piggy” when she was doing her job. Today, it was a meeting where every question was directed to my more junior male colleague instead of me.

Some days, it’s hard to remember that change is possible — but not today. The House and Senate voted to release the Epstein files. Texas maps were overturned. We won New Jersey and Virginia and passed Prop 50. Tomorrow will be another fight, but today, let’s enjoy the wins.

This “deal” to fund the government does NOTHING to keep millions of Americans’ health care premiums from skyrocketing. This failure to act from both the Senate and House Republicans will have serious consequences for our community. I’m voting NO.

I always say that it will take all of us to build a democracy that works and we just took a big step forward thanks to millions of California voters. THANK YOU for voting yes on Prop 50 so we can hold Donald Trump accountable and level the playing field. We won’t let you down.

Donald Trump’s DOJ reeks of bias. He replaced lawyers with loyalists. He made DOJ push and drop investigations. He pressured DOJ to go after his critics. “Election monitoring” of Prop 50 — that has the explicit goal to check Trump’s power — isn’t well-intentioned; it’s a threat.
