I keep hearing Christian apologists conflate two questions: (A) Does life have intrinsic value without God? (B) Does life have an ultimate purpose without God? On (A), I'm yet to hear a good argument as to why atheists can't be Platonists who believe that life has objective intrinsic value.

I've enjoyed reading the comments on this post. I think the best response is that the multiverse hypothesis makes it more likely our universe exists, which counterbalances the advantage for the God hypothesis I identify in the post. I need to think more about this.

I've been critical of the Daily Mail in the past, but I think the honesty displayed here is admirable.

The values of the constants are the same throughout all of space and time in our universe so this isn't a solution. You could consider other universes, but then you have to respond to my argument.

Good question. I think any any God hypothesis on which God desired the particular lifeforms we observe would be ad hoc. (There's nice explanation of how ad hocery dramatically lowers priors to completely cancel out evidential support).

On a conservative estimate the probability of getting right numbers for life by chance is 1 in 10 followed by 135 zeros. You'd need to have ludicrously low prior in God not to end up with very high confidence there's something Godish going on.
