We would like to express our frustration with Colorado Springs City Council and their sidestepping of a critical portion of the recommendation sent to them by the outgoing members of LETAC. The language is clear: “Draft a new ordinance establishing a re-purposed citizen-led body.”

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of partnering with Rocky Mountain Women’s Film (RMWF) in viewing A Reckoning in Boston! We had a great time connecting with everyone and having discussions about the film. Thank you to RMWF for hosting this event and for allowing us to talk about local civic engagement

Today's ordinance adopted by COS City Council didn't incorporate the commission's recommendation to draft a new ordinance for a successor to the Law Enforcement Transparency Advisory Commission & instead simply dissolved commission with a vague promise to “...evaluate a re-purposed citizen-led body”

On April 14th, COS City Council will take up the issue of the Law Enforcement Transparency Advisory Commission (LETAC). We would love members of the community to join us in advocating for a strong & empowered successor to LETAC.

Huge thanks to Will Schultz for having a meet & greet with us this weekend! His recent book, Jesus Springs, chronicles the events that led to Colorado Springs becoming a hub for the Evangelical movement in the 1980s & 90s, including the role that Citizens Project.

We loved attending the El Pomar Foundation's "Get on Board" event! We got to meet with local leaders who are looking for ways to serve. Attendees were excited to hear about local advocacy efforts & voter education on ballot measures. Thank you to El Pomar & all the great orgs who made this possible!

On Tuesday, March 31st, on Trans Day of Visibility, the Supreme Court ruled in a 8-1 vote, with Justice Jackson the sole dissenter to the ruling, against a law banning “conversion therapy" for LGBTQ+ minors in Colorado.

Want to get involved in planning events with Citizens Project? Become a part of our Event Committee! Members will help put on 1-3 events throughout the year, and should plan on dedicating 5-10 hours per month for event planning, as well as potentially helping on the day of the event.

We've signed on to the Families, Not Politics campaign in opposition to Propositions 109 and 110. Prop 109 places vague restrictions on transgender athlete participation in interscholastic/intramural sports, and Prop 110 restricts gender affirming care for minors.

Yesterday evening, the Law Enforcement Transparency Advisory Commission (LETAC) entertained a formal recommendation to Colorado Springs City Council, requesting that they dissolve the current commission and start over. The measure passed!

On Thursday, February 26th, the League of Women Voters of Pikes Peak Region and Citizens Project notified the City of Colorado Springs of its violation of the Colorado Voting Rights Act (COVRA).

Today we remember the legacy and sacrifice of the Reverent Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will not join in the whitewashing and sanitizing of Dr King's contributions. This was not a man who was passive or submissive to authority. He spent time in jail for participating in civil disobedience. 1/

We lost a civil rights champion this week. At 15 y/o, Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus, an act of defiance later replicated by Rosa Parks in the protest we're all familiar with. Let's honor her courage & continue to bend the moral arc of the universe towards justice.
