Still no contact from the governor's office. Vanir and the D.O.C. held a kick-off party today. When reminded they agreed to be transparent, Thomas Burns, inside counsel for the BOC, said "While we do, (want to be transparent), this isn't a public meeting today". In a government building.

This is important: Franklin County folks aren’t necessarily opposed to building a new prison or even building it in Franklin County; they’re upset over the state selecting a site without any local input. #ARpx (1/2)

As I said during Friday’s hearing, it was one thing for our state not to seek input from local residents in Franklin County and another thing entirely for the state to not even consult the elected officials who serve Franklin County. Senator Stubblefield called it “un-American.” #ARpx (2/2)

Something doesn't add up. The site selection for the proposed prison continues to baffle me. We know the growth is following I-49. Why would they not logically consider that area for this? There is literally nothing ideal about Mill Creek Mountain for this prison. #FranklinCountyStrong

The Franklin County Quorum Court last night unanimously adopted a resolution opposing plans for a 3,000-bed prison in Charleston (population: 2,690). It's been incredible to watch how well (and how quickly) county residents have organized to fight back. #ARpx
