His smile widens a fraction at her acquiescence. He moves behind her to get a better look at what she's working on. "I was cleared for an op in the field. Wheels up in two days." Not exactly galaxy shaping news, but it was the small victories that mattered.

Rufus gathered that some might take his joy with suspicion or as a sign of impending doom. He chose to not let it bother him or dampen his smile. “Only to talk. Perhaps share a piece of good news if you’ll allow me.”

He meets her scowl with an uncharacteristic smile that stretched from ear to ear. “It’s been a minute. Just wanted to say hi.”

My time's being wasted either way, almost no matter what I do. Same can't be said for you. So yes it would be your time wasted.
