"Thank you." Reaching out and taking the offered mug, he lets it warm his hands for a moment before taking a sip. "Can't blame you. No one wants to be a bench warmer."

My time's being wasted either way, almost no matter what I do. Same can't be said for you. So yes it would be your time wasted.
