After I see a tool solving a problem for me, I'm no longer willing to persist in solving that solved problem, yeah, about right.

Also: TIL that clocks, watches, screens with time, etc are so rare in my photos, despite being seemingly ubiquitous in the modern world. Especially trustworthy accurate ones. Literal couple dozen accidentally shot over the decade and most of the clocks are awful. Need to take more photos of a phone

Was watching my photo archive to make this model and everything looks so pleasant and nostalgic and I wonder why. Then it occurred to me that my photos show me only me, my family, my friends, my world and none of the then current moment nonsense, no online, no news, no worries.

oof, all the meta-complaining about the other people complaining about something I haven't even experienced myself. now, this post is meta-meta-complaining and make stuff even worse?

you can short-circuit 99% of people by asking them to explain their epistemology (even if you would use a simpler words to explain the concept of epistemology first). Well, may be even 99.9%.

Noticed that running agents is funny for the owner but completely boring and dumb for the outside observer. Just as it is the case with AI generated images and music -- the fun is in the process itself, not in the results.

to be fair to Gemma models: Gemma 4 26B and 31B are doing unexpectedly well on that test, like better than anything else besides Gemini. You just need to select low reasoning and high input resolution and maybe do a couple tries.

it's a pity to watch these people suffering from trying to rationalize why increasingly obviously useful and great technology is still "bad" because they are pre-committed to that point of view earlier for number of reasons.

"world", looks inside: China 71% of wind, 55% of solar. Given an exponential rise, it's amazingly close to adding 1TW of capacity every year in China alone. Mind-blowing figures

we need to extend git blame to the original question user entered in codex/claude code/whatever. I just want to know if this shit is an accidental stuff AI produced there or it was part of the original intent by author.

Great feature of bluesky of marking ai bots (in different ways) makes it easy to mute them all. I wonder if it will make me out of touch later when they will be much more intelligent and start to produce original thoughts.

if only we had some web of trust, certificate signing infrastructure, maybe even page ranking algorithm to calculate weight/reputation of every site? no, sounds like too much work and unbelievable level of coordination

Made a quick modelling tool for various scenarios, including different length of closure, substitution effects strengths and so on, all assumptions are stated and configurable. Effects calculated and visualized by country

A lot of dramatic takes 🥱 A large % of installed base times a large % of a total demand time a large % of being stockpiled time a large % of agricultural production being bio-fuels and feed stock gives a small % of the food you actually eat.

Isn't it strange that people always say "well, Python is good enough as a glue for C code and stuff and anyway it is fast enough when you are doing i/o stuff" and then Rust guys come and it turns out that doing i/o stuff with Rust is still much faster? Yes it is a post about uv

I should write a library that does only one thing: reliably brings CUDA libraries and deliver them to your app, no matter what is your system, in what bizzare misconfigured state is it and if the civilization as we know it still exist

Was reading a post about Python optimization and suddenly realized that we (humanity) are gradient descent optimizers and so often stuck in a local minima, chipping away at problems that were created by climbing a wrong hill long long time ago. How much effort spent optimizing stuff like that?

nano banana infographics were interesting novelty, for about a week and now I can't shake the feeling that they are everywhere, you can just see when image was made with it, like orange piss filter. Interesting how all AI stuff read, look and feel the same despite having potential being so different

VFX teams struggling with keying stuff, cleaning green spills, etc and we now have generic neural networks that can just separate anything from anything, why even shoot stuff on a green screen and deal with its problems in the first place?

ios being bug free (or even bug less) is the biggest lie ever. where else most basic system settings are regularly broken? like, out of the blue keyboard started to vibrate on touch with haptics disabled everywhere. of course any tech person knows that you just have to turn it on and off again.

what would it take to make a pc with zero visual glitches and stutters? we have machines so powerful it's unbelievable but they are still constantly stutter and freeze and miss the bits. I wonder if developers wore explosive necklaces à la Trantor that were set to blow an instant any frame dropped

windows probably need drivers for printers for the same reasons it was forced to make a version without media player. If microsoft wanted, it could just make a universal printer driver and force everyone one the planet to adopt it. We'll call that monopoly power or something and kick them for that

what if we recreated CLI but with care of the GUI systems have? like not just reimplement all the cruft from punch cards up to render on a GPU but made a modern event driven console with two way interaction, mouse support and stuff? why nobody is doing that even on new experimental system?
