Although many non-smokers develop bladder cancer, smoking greatly increases a person’s risk of developing it. The poisons in cigarette smoke leave the body in urine. And because urine is held in the bladder for some time before you pass it, the bladder is exposed to high levels of these poisons.

#bladdercancer is often diagnosed later in women than men. One of the most common early symptoms is blood in your wee – even just once. It might look bright red, rusty or dark brown. There may be clots. Don’t ignore it. Even if it disappears, speak to your GP. Early diagnosis is vital.
