It’s also crazy that a J2e, 9-6, Kotoeiho didn’t get the promotion over a J5e, 11-4, Hatsuyama. In the end the match against Asakoryu on day 15 probably sealed the deal, but, he had already beat top division man Sadanoumi. I’d be more okay with it if Hatsuyama had fought two maegashira as well.

Terunofuji is really clearing ranks and changing names in Isegahama, isn’t he? Really removing any legacy of Hakuho, except for Enho who might just be bigger than the stable.

I’m gutted (once again) but what a basho! What looked like a foregone conclusion of Onosato dominance turned in to the 21 year old Ukrainian grabbing the championship. Cheering for Hoshoryu to make his back to back jun-Yusho into a Yusho!

I would not be surprised if day 7 of the Kyushu basho goes down as the best day of sumo for the tournament. Bout after bout of astounding manoeuvres.

Even if the rikishi I personally root for didn’t win, the Nagoya 2025 basho was amazing. Rare winning techniques, upsets, come from behind victories, questionable judges decisions and more! All this and we got Murray Johnson commentating on the last day, which is icing on the cake :)

Kirishima!! Excellent bout from him. Also, it’s really promising that he handled a pusher thruster so well despite the neck injury reports pre-basho.

There we have it! An enjoyable enough of a tournament. I’d rate it 3/5. You don’t want to see the Yokozuna pulling out on his first tournament. Amazing performances from the lower Maegashira and from Takayasu for keeping it interesting. #sumospoilers

I choose chaos. I think they are going to fill up sanyaku ranks for March as a way to give Hoshoryu more non-kinboshi opponents and promote the winners at the top of joi. So at Sekiwake it will be Daieisho, Kirishima and Takayasu. Komusubi will be Wakatakakage and Wakamotoharu.

I’m absolutely gutted for the Yokozuna but I can see how this happens. I think the tight mawashi of Takayasu is the bane of belt fighters like Kirishima, Hoshoryu. Not a problem for Onosato who doesn’t rely on it to win.

Really strong bout from Hakuoho on day 4 against Shonnanoumi, but, if you watch it again you can see his foot turning over at the same time as Shonnan steps out! In a theoretical monoii situation I think we would have gotten a torinaoshi :o #sumospoilers

And there it is! Hoshoryu also chose the Unryu dohyo iri which means that we get the coolest Yokozuna belt knot :D

Congratulations to Hoshoryu and what seems to be our new Yokozuna ! A three-way playoff is a great way to seal the deal :)

Switch 2 is cool or whatever but the news that Terunofuji retiring is such a shame. An amazing athlete, coming back from all of those injuries to get Yokozuna is amazing.
