Anyways, the Watanare anime is good. Renako is still aggressively stupid and Mai still sucks, but they generally did the best they could have given the source material's flaws. And the end result is something that probably can replace the books, though some of Renako's rants are still fun to read.

Obviously I've seen that they announced a movie, but I would argue that it would have been perfectly good (and also very funny) for not only the anime to end here, but the books as well.

I feel like it's worth mentioning that CITY, unlike most (or all, I'm not sure off the top of my head) KyoAni anime before it, was also written in-house. Ishidate supervising the scripts (with Arawi) that are written by Ayano Satou and Masashi Nishikawa, both work with KyoAni.

This week's CITY has two back to back bits that take up almost half the episode, one which has no dialogue whatsoever and the other which is entirely narrated by radio commentary with no dialogue from any of the featured characters. And both were so good.
