Tell Your Governor and Attorney General to Arrest ICE Agents Who Break State Laws Federal agents are not above the law. When they break state laws, they can and should be held accountable, just like anyone else. This principle was recently tested in California when reports surfaced that Trump planned to send Border Patrol and National Guard units into San Francisco. The plan drew national outrage, and California leaders moved quickly to respond. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins made it clear that if federal agents used unlawful force or violated California law while operating in her city, they would face arrest and prosecution. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Kevin Mullin publicly backed her position, stating that local and state authorities have the legal power to make those arrests and that any conviction in state court cannot be pardoned by a president. Within twenty-four hours of those warnings, Trump abruptly canceled his operation. State leadership and public pressure stopped it before it began. This is what accountability looks like.
