Former Westminster City Councilor and current State Representative Shannon Bird announced Tuesday she is entering the Democratic primary for the 8th Congressional District. Out for a hike on Green Mountain? Keep an eye out for wildflowers and explosives
It was a warm spring morning over a decade ago when Jim Bullecks headed out for a walk in William Fr. Hayden Park on Green Mountain. Bullecks had been involved with cleanup efforts on the sloping ridges of the open space behind his Lakewood home and had set out on a solo cleanup trek. As his eyes scanned the mountain park for bits of trash and scrap iron, he came across a surprising piece of history poking up from the rabbit brush.

Letter: Charter plan doesn’t measure up
On December 10, 2024, the “Kids First” majority members of the Douglas County School Board voted to release a proposed classical charter school, John Adams Academy (JAA), to the Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI) rather than consider the application itself. The effect of this action shifts control away from the district and cuts off future district oversight. This determination was made for seemingly no reason other than that the requesting JAA board member requested it.

Valor girls lacrosse rallies comeback to win program’s first state title
It started with a major gut punch: 30 players losing their coach just a few weeks before the start of the season. It ended with those same 30 players storming the field at the University of Denver as Class 5A state champions. The Valor Christian girls lacrosse team, whose previous coach resigned in February, applied the sweetest of exclamation points to its season on May 16 at Peter Barton Stadium — by beating ThunderRidge 12-8 under the lights for the program’s first state title.
