Spectacled eider, Texel, š³š±. Having a good preen on the rocks and showing off those eye markings SO well. Kilometre out to Wadden Sea early this morning, before eventually coming to shore at Wagejot for a good 30 minutes. If only Redcarās king eider had ever done the same ā¦

111 years ago today the last Passenger Pigeon on earth, which we called Martha, died in Cincinnati Zoo at around 12:30pm local time. The most abundant bird species Earth had ever seen had been driven to extinction.

When they built the pretty glass wall sea defences at New Passage so knew it would be a disaster. I have seen several dead Wood pigeons killed by hitting the glass and this morning I found this dead Sparrowhawk. Stupid waste.

I live on an island which is not just bird-rich but also covered in free-roaming cats. And some folk here like to tell me cats don't have impacts. Or bring in few birds. What the cat brings in isn't all the cat kills. Just look at the estimate from the US! From
