Day 29 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: "OCCULT"URAL CENTER House on Haunted Hill (1959) 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑— Dumb, but at least it was only 74 minutes. The only cool part was the exteriors shot at Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House, which I guess was supposed to look creepy. @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social

Day 27 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: TRANCING AND HYPNOTISM Svengali (1931) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑— Excellent. Surreal, expressionistic sets and camera work. The 1931 version is included as a bonus feature on this disc for the 1954 version, which I haven't watched.

Day 22 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: WRECK TANGLE Vanishing Point (1971) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑— Guy drives a Dodge Charger full speed, non-stop, popping pills, from Denver to San Francisco and there is a huge wreck at the end. Great movie. Relatively little dialog, mostly engines roaring @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social

Day 21 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: TWINNERS CIRCLE The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑— A car crash releases a man's double, who proceeds to destroy his life, steal his wife, and drive him to his death. Really slick movie. See the car chase sequence in the reply. @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social

Day 20 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: DANCE DANCE DEVOLUTION Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) 🌕🌕🌑 🌑 🌑— Happy to fit in one from my 30-film Universal Classic Monsters Collection. This had some nice underwater sequences, and Julie Adams is lovely, but a little slow for 79 minutes.

Day 19of the #SCVpsychochallenge: THE ABANDONED PLACE The Keep (1983) 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑— Nazis release a big bad monster from the innermost chamber of The Keep into the lobby, it starts killing everyone, and it's banished back into the chamber by an equally mysterious lady-killer. @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social

Day 18 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: VIDEO STORE DAY Be Kind Rewind (2008) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑— Jack Black becomes magnetized and ruins an entire video store full of VHS tapes, so they must shoot makeshift cardboard and kitchen utensil versions of the movies to satisfy their customers @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social

Day 13 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: HOLLYWOODLAND BACK (indigenous filmmaker/cast) Prey (2022) 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑— To prove herself a hunter, a Comanche girl must take down a predator, and she chooses the deadliest predator in the universe. Pretty badass.

Day 12 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: MOROSE CODE: Gothic horror The Lair of the White Worm (1988) 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑— Pagan vampire woman survives for centuries feeding a white dragon worm on the locals. Features some cool psychedelic dream sequences.

Day 11 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: DYSTOPIAN FUTURE: Polite society just ain’t what it used to be. Hardware (1990) 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗— Amazing. Wasn't prepared for that. Highly recommended.

Day 9 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: MASTER OF DISASTER: Watch any Irwin Allen offering. The Poseidon Adventure (1972) 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑— Low on thrills for movie about people trying to escape a sinking ship.

Day 8 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: HOLY WEDNESDAY The Wicker Man (2008) 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑— Nicholas Cage is lured into infiltrating a reclusive matriarchal pagan cult. Expected this to be terrible from its reputation, but I liked it. A near miss.

Day 7 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: NOW THAT’S BRASS The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑— Leatherface shows his softer side and the Sawyers have really stepped up their interior design since the original and must've cleared out every lamp store in Texas in the process.

Day 6 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: SQUEAKY REELS The Phantom of the Opera (1925) 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑— Wonderfully lavish sets and costumes and menacing Lon Chaney performance as the nose-less Phantom.

Day 5 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: SHRIEKS & SQUEALS Bride of Frankenstein (1935) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 — Really enjoyed this. The Bride of Frankenstein (Elsa Lanchester) lets out an adorable little squeak before her famous shriek when the Monster touches her.

Day 4 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: MYTHICAL CREATURES (Bigfoot) Night of the Demon (1980) 🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑 — Only 100 minutes or so, but seemed like twice that. A few bits of decent low-budget gore, but overall boring as hell!

Day 3 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: SIMIAN CINEMA Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 — First viewing. Good. I recently changed my mind about the US Godzilla movies and this one was even better than Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019).

Day 2 of the #SCVpsychochallenge: FANGS FOR WATCHING Python (2000) First time. Will Wheaton, Robert Englund and Jenny McCarthy. Not a lot of biting in this one, more projectile acid venom.
