I miss Kyoto already.

Going to Kyoto for a book talk event. It’s been so long since the last ride on Thunderbird that I almost forgot how much I liked looking at the sceneries through the big window on Thunderbird.

I don’t know what advice to give to graduate students who don’t work part-time and socialize with other students while complaining how their poor financial conditions take away their attention from research and how they don’t have friends.

I’m writing an introductory book to queer cinema for middle and high school students. Yesterday I had a chance to share the draft with my colleague at a bi-weekly tea party aka writing session. She asked me why I’m writing about “cinema” in this age. Why cinema? What a hard question.

One of my favorite actors Shohei Hino passed away. I’ve always loved the way he made others smile with his comedic charm in films and TV dramas. Rest in peace. I’m going to watch his perfect role in Imo tako nankin tonight.

金沢に来てからずっとお世話になっていた同僚が先日亡くなったことが辛くてしょうがない瞬間がときどきある。昨夜の夢にずっと出てきた。たった4年しか知らなかったし、しょっちゅう会ってたわけではなかったけれど、毎週木曜日の授業合間にコーヒー自販機前で近況報告をするのが好きだった。南の海でゆっくり泳いで過ごして欲しい。

In a week, there will be a release of another Japanese film with a trans male character. Not sure how trans communities inside and outside Japan respond to it, but I’m already starting to feel sick. The way this film is advertised in theaters right now is horrible too.

It’s been extremely difficult to keep students motivated after the massive earthquake on New Year’s. The submission of graduation theses is due in 5 days, but students from near the most affected area haven’t shared anything with me or replied my emails. I am worried.
