Man, am I happy that I graduated from secondary school before Sam Altman's plagiarism machine was a thing. Good job tech bros, your fancy new gadget has brought us the future of "people can't read anymore", my favourite flavour of dystopia.

This is why I hate it when economics bros use "supply and demand" as an excuse for companies doing evil stuff. Who wants this!? Bring me ONE person who would genuinely enjoy playing that. This is nothing but an insult to human art and creativity.

So do I understand correctly that Bartle's Player types are based solely on his observations in his own game, with no statistical basis whatsoever, and everybody just went with it? I feel like I've seen it presented as fact more than once, and it seems a bit too loosey-goosey for that.

It's also a really good excercise to actively reflect on the games you played and why you liked (or disliked) them! Which is great for learning Game Design, so really it's a win-win!

Fellow indie devs, what do you use to promote your game early in development? I feel Bsky can be nice to talk dev to dev, but I wonder what platforms work the best for reaching early adopting players. Are mailing lists still a thing, or are Social Media platforms the way to go?

Finally got around to finishing Baldur's Gate 3, and what a ride it was! I had teary eyes when I realized I'd missed my chance to save Karlach, but every time Lae'zel was in frame wearing clown makeup, I couldn't hold back a chuckle. I guess that's what people call an emotional rollercoaster.

Does anyone have a good example of a radar/sonar being used in a game? Not a map looking like a radar, where you can clearly identify whether something is an enemy or ally, but actually a display where you can only see dots like this:

? As a kid, whenever I was not gaming, or outside, I was on my dad's computer trying to find all the ways of using it creatively. After doing special effects, editing photos, 3D modeling and composing, making games seemed like the logical next step!

I am currently preparing a workshop about 3D modeling for games for some fellow students at university, and in the process I'm discovering tools that could've saved me DAYS if I knew them earlier... Like what do you mean I can export multiple FBX files from one blender scene with one click?!?!?
