Baby Miigwans already loves listening to the language and looking at Anishinaabe art. We want to raise our boy to love his culture, because we want to honour him as a continuation of a very long story. ❤️

Being hyper-independent, a step-parent, a councillor and someone the whole family leans on makes pregnancy really hard some days. I woke up exhausted and I feel like I’m letting everyone down when I rest. But also, this is my time and I just need extra of everything. Extra softness, extra help.

Just thinking… Indigenous-made maternity clothes would go hard! I am having a hard time finding good quality sustainable plus size maternity clothes.

I haven’t been on here in a hot minute- council duties, creating art and parenting all take up a lot of time so I post on socials way less. But I wanted to come on here and update that we are expecting a little one in December 🥹❤️

Has anyone ever taken Animal Husbandry training? Many folks in my community want chickens and in trying to strategize/consulting with our gitigan, this type of training has been identified as beneficial and necessary. Wondering if anyone can weigh in so we can make good decisions. Miigwech!

My newest mural is up! The narrative is now shifting from Creation Story to Migration Story, and this image depicts a thunderbird and giant serpent engaged in battle over Niagara Falls, one of the stopping points.

I’m so proud of the work Waasa Enaabijig immersion is doing here in Rama! This week they learned a lot from the Great Lakes Cultural Camp. It was an honour to bear witness to this work & to show the kids my art. They’re co-creating the future of our community. 🥹

We stopped by the hide tanning workshop to help out a bit this afternoon. Much respect to the harvesters who do this regularly, and everyone who’s been working for days on these ones- it is back breaking work! So happy we got to participate & so proud of our community for coming together like this ❤️

Many miigweches to these University of Victoria students! Over the past two days they gave a series of presentations about their research on Repatriation and Anishinaabe Law, Tribunal Development, an Environmental Literature Review of Indigenous-Led Solutions to Fish & Water Stewardship, etc.

Lately this image has been in my head. I’ve dreamt of it and sketched it in my notes during meetings where we speak about the collective and our intentions as we move forward as a community.

Yesterday we birthed and bathed eagle feathers together as a council ✨ The act of caring for these feathers comes from the intention of uplifting our community. I am so grateful for the work we are doing together.

I’m devouring Moon Of The Turning Leaves just as quickly as I devoured Moon Of The Crusted Snow. It’s so good because it’s so plausible. It aligns all our Nish dreams and prophecies with realities (good and bad). Obsessed with this series.

It’s #ndnartober2023 Day 1: Dream ✨ this piece is based on a dream that I had recently. My anxiety peaked for several days. Amidst that anxiety I had a dream that I was picking Ghost Pipe and then walked down to the river with it, with Tim and the kids, and did a water ceremony.

Lately my anxiety’s been fluctuating to levels I haven’t felt for a while… the last time I felt like this was right before the pandemic hit… It’s like I’m waiting for something to happen. But when I try to post my dreams I’m told I’m too morbid. But I trust my dreams and my gut.

We are collaborating on an art piece which will feature Amanda and Patience, two beautiful women in my community (mother and daughter) who are focussed on healing not only themselves but others. ❤️ some intergenerational magic for the day

This drum sold so fast yesterday. I love moose and how much they give us; how much they provide. ❤️ happy this little spiritual provider has a new home!

Pow wow day 1 ❤️ Our kids sold out of their lemonade, I nearly sold out of my art, had a fat bougie ndn taco from pow wow cafe, watched our kids sing a victory song with their drum group, and danced all the intertribals. I love our community. ❤️‍🔥

Just a little bird 💙 been trying to make art that alleviates the anxiety. This one reminds me of something that would be in my hypothetical future baby’s room 🩵

This is a piece I did about my partner and I making it through covid. We had all four kids here with us while we battled the worst sickness of our lives, and we didn’t get any of the children infected even though we were changing diapers and making bottles. It was a victory keeping them safe 💜

Tim and I are teaching our boy how to bead 🥰 he’s a natural just like his daddy. Only 11 years old and going to take over the world muahahaha

My partner made this medallion for me. I watched him spend months on it but I still cried so much when he finished it and gave it to me. It’s only his second beaded piece- he’s so talented 😍

I have such a deep loving respect for the interconnectedness of all things; but it’s hard to stay focussed on that when the world is moving so fast and all anyone cares about is money. Trying to find stillness and connection with the land.
