I really don’t understand Jonas’ 2024 TDF especially with the 2025 context we now have. He improved from 2023 to 2024 despite a severely impaired prep but doesn’t seem to have improved as much as you’d expect in 2025 from that 2024 performance?

I just don’t think Almeida’s got it in him to fight for a grand tour win right now. Mentally, he’s just not quite there. Next year he needs to work on that and his explosiveness and then who knows. He‘s looked closer than anyone else to be able to compete with Jonas. Let’s see at the tour next year

Also think this reinforces that Joao Almeida is far far more valuable for the team than Juan Ayuso right now. Of course Ayuso probably has a much higher margin for improvement but he’s the team player and right now he looks pretty close to Pog’s biggest rival

I don’t see Almeida winning the Vuelta, especially with the current time gaps. But it is much much closer than I thought it would be right now. Let’s see how he is at the end but Almeida looks clear #3 GC guy in the world right now.
