We're literally up all night building Agentic AI orchestration. Infected by the AI frenzy. Addicted to the token. But we need to take a breath. Not everyone sees AI as we do. They see AI slop, AI stealing from artists, a data centre in their back yard. AI has a bad rep, and we need to be aware.

These days, if Big SaaS is in the news, it’s never good. Data breaches are the worst news. Many SME have emptied out their server rooms — their highly valuable data stored “safely” in the Cloud. But Big SaaS is losing ground, and these security breaches are part of it. SME looking for a way out.

We’re builders. We just can’t resist. Want an easy way to enter worklogs during morning standup? I’ve built us a worklogs application. Need to split out hosting provider costs? I’ve built us an accounting application. Great. Until we fall for the maintenance trap.

Founder OS. SaaS Academy. Gurus love the concept of an operating system: they know system is core to success. We’ve been working with AI ever since GPT-3. But only now are we really feeling it. We’re building our own Business OS. Building on a long history of talent who knows the power of system.

By now, everyone working with AI coding agents has understood. Yes, there’s an enormous gain in speed. But to be successful, web applications and apps need to deliver a brilliant and compelling user experience. A UX that satisfies our animal brain. Building that is hard. We need to slow down.

The costs of software are plummeting due to the use of Agentic AI. Developers are afraid for their jobs. But you could also say that productivity is rising. There are opportunities to be had from that mindset switch. We can make economically infertile terrain yeild value.

We’re not touching our keyboards anymore. Now that we’re supercharged by coding agents, we leave writing the actual code to our AI. But is losing touch with the keyboard going to lead to losing touch with that which leads to creativity? Or do we just need to level up?

This is what the c-suite people are saying: oh, we’ll fire our coders and have AI do their work. Dumb. Because it'll be the other way round. You’ll be training your staff to think like coders. Coders will be everywhere. Software is everywhere. Will bring value from places you hadn’t thought of.

I get it. The incredible rate at which AI is changing our lives can be scary. And the issues are real. As a small software company we’re heavily invested in Agentic AI for coding. We know about the problems first hand. But we also know about the solutions.

I run three coding agents simultaneously, plus one to manage tickets. Conservative estimate? Three to five times as productive. But guess who’s the real winner here? Big Tech AI. As Agentic AI is becoming more entrenched in our work processes, costs are skyrocketing. Our solution? Roll our own.

Do you know how quickly an unprotected server becomes infected with an AI bot? Minutes. Seconds. Security measures protect. But implementing comes at a cost. Sometimes implementing the security measures is more effort than the feature.

As Agentic AI is pushing it’s way into the software industry, senior software developers are pushing back. They might feel threatened. Whatever. AI is automating software development. Productivity up ten, twenty, a hundred times. Software is everywhere. Code is threading the social fabric.

I’ve been coding for more than twenty five years now. The archetypical lonely coder. Yes, I have a company, I have colleagues. But coding? Always done alone. That’s changed now that I make use of a coding agent almost exclusively. I’ve even given it a name. My AI. It’s as if I’ve found a friend.

There’s something addicting to using coding agents. They make you feel like you have superpowers. That is, until the bills arrive. AI-powered software solutions are similar to traditional Big SaaS in that way. There’s no magic involved. You get a productivity boost, great. But then you must pay.

Today we remember and commemorate the day it started, now four years exactly, when the war came back to Europe. We’ve grown to respect the Ukrainian resilience and defiance, their adaptability and their courage. The Russian bear must be stopped. We must help Ukraine with all our might.
