Progressives feeling powerless: focus your attention locally. There is so much we can do to improve our communities if we show up and advocate for effective, equitable local governance.

When it comes to taking serious action to address our housing crisis, Bend is leading the way. Partially because we had a head start feeling the pain, but mostly it's because our City and our elected officials are laser focused on doing everything we can to solve the problem.

This is disappointing but here’s the thing: BOTH OPTIONS WERE BAD!!! There may be reasons for saying political careers should end but I don’t think this is it.

People will die and there will be more traffic. I think people don’t believe this, but it’s true. And I’m very concerned for our local efforts here in Bend.

If you complain about road closures for infrastructure improvements, you are failing the Standford Marshmallow Experiment as a full grown adult.

When I was in my 20s, a government shutdown forced me out of a government-funded trade program and I had days to find work and housing. That shutdown precipitated the worst 5 years of my life. Fuck brinkmanship.

This is a good example of how reducing housing costs is not always straightforward. Time is money, so getting a permit through faster for an increased fee can actually reduce development costs.

*NO* city is doing anything to address this? Surely my city, Bend, OR, is different? But officially it may be correct.. The recent Bend Metropolitan Transportation Plan paints a bleak picture: not only are we expecting 50% more people in 20 yrs, but per capita driving is predicted to *increase*. 🧵
