From a thread on inexperienced Reform councillors taking over local govt at the point where it’s a financial bin fire. People tend to think of local elections as if they kind of don’t matter or it’s all bins & potholes but they run services that have such a big direct impact on lives

I don’t know if this will be the case or not, but it’s worth noting that the government is quietly changing the behaviour requirements for councillors, rolling back out a strengthened version of the standards regime that used to be in place before 2010.

Reform have become the governing party on several councils they had no representation on previously. They are going to go in, be briefed about how bleak everything is, and if their past example is anything to go by, a number of councils are going to go after the officers giving them the bad news.
