Awoke from a dream in which I was trying to recognise a man staring at me from a military-style parade and wearing my beloved Kuwaiti fawra bisht. "That's mine! How did he get hold of it?" When I wake up, I get an email from my mother that a family friend from Kuwait, a soldier, has died.

Also, while I have you here on the subject of technology, contact lenses should be embedded with the tech from key rings that whilstle back, so when I drop one trying to put it in I don't spend twenty minutes searching with two differently-focused eyes only to then find it stuck to my belly.

Seeing an artist being described in marketing by an LLM is a tragedy. Like, say something. Anything. Don't be afraid. Say nothing at all. Anything is better than running them through a generator. Art practice descriptor clichés are off-putting enough without them having never even touched flesh.

Spent the day with the LungA School talking together about the art they were making, and it's always such a damn treat. Being around people being creative, artists making art, is such an intensity.

Two things I don't know rn: 1. I don't know what this music is; it only had an X drawn on the CD in Sharpie. But I will listen to it anyway. 2. I don't know where the lid is to the pot I want to cook rice in. But there are other pots.

My 6yo and I are talking about big numbers. I told her about a googul, which is 10, followed by 100 zeros, and she told me about a mountainskrillion, which is 10 with as many zeros as you can fit in a mountain.

Just got jumped by the internet playing a record from 20 years ago that I'd totally forgotten existed. It brought with it first slow and then utter heady recognition, and my planned night of emotional restraint now lies destroyed.

I dreamt of bats. Little bats huddled, fidgeting, stretching. Bats hanging on the stairs of the studio building. Bats hanging from balustrades and balconies as I walk home through town. I don't think I've dreamt of bats before.

On Instagram, an artist and former student bizarrely describes Kirk as being "without malice." Later, whilst eating breakfast, a tiny fragment of crispbread steeped in egg and sriracha hits me in the eye. I anticipate both of these events are going to sit with me all day today. Outside it rains.

I've bought canvas and oils to make a painting or two. Something I haven't done for 25 years or so. I want to make decisions visible in the paintings. I want to make it somehow balanced between the outside (what is seen and felt) and the inside (my having seen and felt it). That's all. Let's see.

Just a reminder that generative AI is theft of labor and intellectual property, uses vast amounts of energy/ water, provides at best mediocre results (if not outright lies or misinformation), actually affects your ability to think over time (mind duh), and is in general a really fucking bad idea.
